Bloodborne Remake Reportedly Turned Down By FromSoftware

Bloodborne Remake Reportedly Turned Down By FromSoftware

In the wake of Sony’s unexpected and shocking closure of Bluepoint Games, just five years after purchasing the studio, one of the main prevailing thoughts was — Why was Bluepoint working on everything but a remake of Bloodborne? — a seemingly surefire hit for a studio in need of one.

As it turns out, Bluepoint did in fact pitch Sony on remaking the FromSoftware title. However, it was turned down, and it wasn’t Sony who rejected the pitch.

With The Closure Of Bluepoint Games, I’ve Officially Lost All Trust In PlayStation

Bluepoint Games has been shuttered by Sony after it acquired the studio several years ago.

In a new wide-ranging report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, it was revealed that the now defunct studio did unsuccessfuly try and get a remake of Bloodborne off the ground in early 2025. The idea, according to Schreier, had been considered before and was even expected, but never ultimately went into production.

Bluepoint’s second pitch similarly went nowhere in the end.

“The studio was told that the numbers made sense but FromSoftware didn’t want it to happen, according to people familiar with the process,” Schreier wrote.

The reporting adds further credence to what former president of SIE Worldwide Studios for PlayStation, Shuhei Yoshida, theorized in an interview last year regarding the beloved franchise. Specifically, that Hidetaka Miyazaki “loved” the franchise but didn’t want anyone else touching it.

“Miyazaki-san really, really loved Bloodborne and what he created,” Yoshida said. “I think he is interested, but he’s so successful, and he’s so busy, he cannot do it himself, but he doesn’t want anyone else to touch it.”

Understanding that element, “the PlayStation team respects his wish,” Yoshida added. Based off Schreier’s reporting, it seems that the theory is a lot closer to reality.

Whether Bloodborne ultimately gets remade is anyone’s guess at this point. Given how busy FromSoftware is as a studio, it almost certainly isn’t the biggest priority. However, that hasn’t stopped the studio from gauging fan interest on all things Bloodborne.

Bloodborne Continues To Be A Massive Fan Request

As recently as February 2025, FromSoftware gauged fans whether they’d like to see more Bloodborne content via a survey held during Elden Ring: Nightreign’s network test.

A few months later, it was revealed that, at the time, Bloodborne was Sony’s 10th best-selling title by full dollar sales of Sony-published games in the US, highlighting just how popular the game is and certainly how well-received a potential remake would be.

All the while, fan efforts to remake the game weren’t successful, with one creator revealing that they had received a cease and desist letter. Ironically, after Bluepoint’s closure, Sony did ask fans what remake they’d like to see next on social media, though that post, as expected, didn’t last long.
