The Spear-Breaker is another of the three unique characters in Norse: Oath Of Blood, bringing decades of skill and strength to the fight. As the noble Viking twins’ bodyguard, the Spear-Breaker is an essential part of the unit on the battlefield.
The Spear-Breaker possesses his own special abilities within the unit, specializing in heavy-hitting two-handed axe-wielding. Here are the best abilities to choose when playing as the Spear-Breaker in Norse: Oath Of Blood, and how best to use him on the battlefield.
Every Best Spear-Breaker Ability
The Spear-Breaker is a unique unit type that can only be held by Arn, the bodyguard to the twin nobles, Sigrid and Gunnar. Together, they must build a party of fighters, defend the village, and avenge the fallen Jarl.
His abilities are unique to him, and they can be chosen from two distinct types after ranking up: Oathsworn or Veteran.
When the Hirdmen fight during a mission, they gain experience and will eventually rank up. The more they engage with the enemy and the more successful they are, the better chance they have of ranking up.
To check how successful each unit has been, add any new abilities, or change equipment, visit the Hirdmen tab and select your unit.
You cannot undo your choice of ability once selected.
Abilities in the Oathsworn column are more damage-focused, while the Veteran column focuses more on strategy and applying debuffs to the enemy. The abilities you choose depend entirely on your own play style. However, to help you apply more strategic moves to the fight, we recommend equipping the abilities below.
|
Ability |
Type |
Rank |
Description |
|---|---|---|---|
|
Iron Will |
Veteran |
Bondi |
Inflicts the Crippled status to adjacent enemies, meaning they cannot move andf their Reflex is reduced to zero. You also gain +3 Armor until your next turn, which gives you extra defense against incoming attacks. |
|
Pass The Meat |
Veteran |
Oathsworn |
When a Knockback triggers the Attack Of Opportunity (AOO), you can respond with an Attack Of Opportunity. An AOO is an attack in response to triggering Alert, breaking from Engagement, or being pushed into an enemy. |
|
Dead Leg |
Veteran |
Viking |
Deals 4 Damage and 1 Armor Break, and inflicts Crippled for 1 turn. If the target enemy is Prone, damage is increased by 50%. |
|
Expose Weakness |
Veteran |
Housecarl |
An attack has a 50% chance to also inflict Vulnerable, which means they take 50% increased Damage. |
|
Giant’s Fury |
Oathsworn |
Legend |
An area of attack ability that has the unit strike the ground, causing damage and debuffs to surrounding tiles:
|
|
Gjarllarhorn |
Oathsworn |
Einherjar |
All enemies are inflicted with Vulnerable, so they take 50% increased damage. All allies restore 25% Health and rise from being Prone. |
For a more damage-dealing ability, you could swap out the Giant’s Fury ability with the alternative from the Veteran column: Ragnarok. This will instead deal 10 Damage to all enemies within a 20-tile radius. This can be powerful when enemies are surrounding the Spear-Breaker, and is more damage-based than debuff.
When deploying units at the start of a battle, the Spear-Breaker should be front and center, leading the fight with Gunnar. He has decent health and great skill, thanks to his years of experience, so he is well-suited to a very involved role within the group.
The Spear-Breaker is a Bruiser type unit, best positioned to the front and ready to deal out heavy damage to incoming enemies. Keep him near Gunnar, but watch out when using his Mighty Hew attack, as this can also harm allies on the tiles in front of him.
