Battlefield 6 just can’t stop winning. After a successful beta test, the game had a massive launch in terms of player count, with reviews going in its favour as well. As for sales, it has already outsold over half of the entire franchise, and has also propelled Steam to reach its highest ever online users count.
Of course, this wouldn’t have been possible without constant feedback monitoring and adjusting the game. One of the biggest issues with such multiplayer games is server congestion thanks to XP farms, which Battlefield 6 has a lot of. However, it seems the game’s latest update has now rendered these XP farms useless.
Battlefield 6 Renders XP Farms Useless
While the main purpose of the update was to ensure that players earn more XP in multiplayer matches, another change restructured the XP progression on custom Portal matches. XP farms are created via the Portal experience, by either making NPCs easy to kill or not giving them weapons, so that players can easily gain XP.
The change sees the amount of XP on these custom experiences severely nerfed, making players work harder to earn XP. The by-product of this is players moving away from these XP farms and onto real multiplayer matches to earn XP. This ensures the server is freed up for more legitimate matches.
However, the devs have cast a wide net here, with several reports coming in of legitimate Portal servers having their XP nerfs despite not being XP farms. Hopefully, this will be fine tuned over time to ensure that only the XP farms are targeted by the nerf. This will be a welcome move for those who faced server load issues while looking for matches due to the sheer number of XP farms in Battlefield 6.
“If Custom Portal Community Experience is chosen, then anyone who plays it will not receive the standard Career XP, Hardware XP and Mission and Assignment Progress rates,” said the patch notes. “Instead, players will receive a Career XP Match Completion award that is higher than a similar award from finishing a Multiplayer match. Custom Portal Community Experiences are clearly labelled as having “Modified XP” to avoid confusion.”
