Battlefield 6’s Free-To-Play Battle Royale, Redsec Releases Today

Battlefield 6’s Free-To-Play Battle Royale, Redsec Releases Today

Between leaked playtest details and a rumored shadow drop, we’ve known Battlefield 6 would eventually be getting a battle royale mode for a while. Now we have an official name and release date, and while it wasn’t quite a shadow drop, you’ll be able to play Battlefield’s BR before the end of the day.

EA confirmed on Monday that Battlefield 6’s BR will be called Redsec (short for Redacted Sector), and that it will be released on October 28, 2025, which is today. Don’t rush off right away to go and play; it isn’t available yet. Well, unless you’re reading this after 11 am EST, in which case it is available to play right now.

Still finish reading this before you go, though.

Battlefield’s take on Warzone is called Redsec, and even though, at the time of typing this, it’s only a few hours away, that’s pretty much all we know about it, at least officially. Redsec is going to drop with only the select few people who were afforded the chance to take part in its playtests having any idea of how it will work and how it feels to play. The rest of us will be hopping in and learning together at the times listed below.

  • 11 am EST (East Coast US)
  • 8 am PST (West Coast US)
  • 3 pm GMT (UK)
  • 4 pm CET (Europe)
  • 12 am JST (October 29, Japan)
  • 2 am AET (October 29, Australia)

It’s also unclear, with only hours to go, how exactly players will access Redsec. It will be a free-to-play mode, which means you won’t need to have bought a copy of Battlefield 6 to play it. There doesn’t appear to be an option to download or pre-load the BR mode, but here’s hoping it’s a standalone download that doesn’t require you to access it through something like Call of Duty HQ, as is the case with Warzone.

Not knowing what we’re getting ourselves into until everyone drops in at the same time is kind of fun, but there are some details out there thanks to leaks. The circle, for example, a staple in most BR games (the storm in Fortnite, gas in Warzone), will be far less forgiving in Redsec. That’s because it’s a wall of fire that will seemingly kill you instantly if you’re caught by it.

The numbers Redsec pulls will be fascinating to see for a couple of reasons. Battlefield 6 sold more than 6.5 million copies in its first few days, and the servers held up really well. Its BR numbers will almost certainly be a different beast, though, since there won’t be a $70 entry fee attached. There’s also EA’s want for Redsec to pull in 100 million players hanging over it.
