Back before Battlefield 6 released, you could really feel the positivity surrounding the series, as players jumped into the game after being burned by Battlefield 2042, eager for a game to right the wrongs of the previous one. For the most part, it managed to succeed, as Battlefield 6 managed to break records and was touted as a true rival to Call of Duty. At one point, it even had Call of Duty sweating over its success, even though it claimed not to be worried.
Fast-forward to now, and there’s a very different vibe to the entire game. Thanks to the launch of Season 1 and the game’s new battle royale mode, RedSec, opinions on Battlefield 6 are starting to sour, whether it be the game’s obnoxious reminders to buy the battle pass, or the multitude of skins that have been shown off recently that fans believe feel too goofy for the game’s more grounded vibes. It’s been a bit of a disaster for DICE, and one that has culminated in a minor review bombing.
Battlefield 6 Steam Reviews Drop To Mixed After Season 1 And RedSec Launch
Head on over to Battlefield 6’s Steam page, and everything seems relatively normal — that is until you stop filtering the game’s reviews for your specific language. At the time of writing, Battlefield 6 has received almost 163,000 user reviews, and enough of them are now negative to drop the game to Mixed. In fact, if you check the game’s user reviews for each day since release, you’ll see that October 29 was the first day in which the game received more negative reviews than positive ones.
It doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to figure out exactly what the problem is either. Take a closer look at the most recent negative user reviews, and you’ll see that a lot of them are feeling ticked off by RedSec, with one person claiming that they feel like they paid DICE to help establish a player base for their free-to-play battle royale mode. Other problems include the aforementioned colorful skins, the new battle pass and increase in microtransactions, and too many similarities to Call of Duty.
This drop to Mixed also makes a lot more sense when you notice that the standalone page for RedSec is currently sitting at a Steam rating of Mostly Negative, and most of that anger seems to have spilled over into the main Battlefield 6 page as well. There are some people fighting back, arguing that Battlefield 6 is still a great game, but it’s pretty clear that the honeymoon period is well and truly over for a lot of fans.
