Baldur’s Gate 3’s Honour Mode Has More Than Twice The Completion Rate Of Divinity: Original Sin 2’s

Baldur’s Gate 3’s Honour Mode Has More Than Twice The Completion Rate Of Divinity: Original Sin 2’s

After Divinity was revealed, many picked up the last game in the series, Divinity: Original Sin 2. At first glance, it looks and plays a whole lot like Baldur’s Gate 3, albeit running on Larian’s own ruleset, rather than Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition.

However, there is another key difference between these games: Divinity: Original Sin 2 is way harder. Okay, maybe that is somewhat subjective, but so many of us have complained about it kicking our asses at this point that I think there is something to that argument. In fact, we have the stats to back it up now, and it’s all thanks to the Honour Mode difficulty in both games.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 Has An Honour Mode Just Like Baldur’s Gate 3, Only Much Harder

According to achievement stats on Steam, only one percent of players have beaten Divinity: Original Sin 2 in Honour Mode. In comparison, Baldur’s Gate 3’s Honour Mode has a completion rate of 2.9 percent. It’s a little closer on PlayStation, with BG3 having a lead of just 0.1 percent, but then a full two percent lead on Xbox.

For those of you out of the loop, Honour Mode is the hardest difficulty. If activated, then you only have one save slot, and once you’re dead, you’re dead.

While those figures won’t be exact (it doesn’t account for those playing in offline mode or on GOG, for instance), it does show a clear pattern of a larger percentage of players managing to eventually beat BG3 on this difficult mode, as opposed to D:OS2. This is despite D:OS2 launching years before BG3.

I am sure any of you who have played both games weren’t really surprised by this. To put it simply, D:OS2 is hard. Even the starting area of Fort Joy throws some curveballs at you if you don’t know what you’re doing. It’s also way less beginner-friendly, and unlike BG3, you can’t customise your party whenever you feel like it, as at a certain point, you’re locked in with whoever you’ve brought with you.

Don’t let that put you off Divinity if you’ve only played BG3, though, as it looks like this will be a good starting point. There’s no word on when Divinity will be ready, but in the meantime, D:OS2 just got a shiny next-gen update, if you do want to give it a go.
