There’s a lot you can miss in Baldur’s Gate 3. From rare encounters to hidden dialogues, the game is packed with content that’s still being discovered over two years later. However, while a few lines of dialogue are one thing, many of us even missed the massive undead dragon hidden beneath the city in our first playthrough. Probably because we let Wyll die.
Ansur not only unlocks some major revelations in the narrative, but defeating him also gets you some really neat rewards. The Helm of Balduran and Balduran’s Giantslayer are great endgame items for strength-build characters like Karlach, but Ansur makes you earn them with a relatively tough fight. However, you can entirely skip the fight and still get the rewards if you’re in a hurry or don’t want to risk your honour mode playthrough.
How To Cheese Ansur In Baldur’s Gate 3
Redditor ninjaconor86 lost their previous honour mode run by getting stun-locked by Mindflayers in the final battle. So, in order to get some stun resistance, they decided to take the risk and get the Helm of Balduran. However, instead of going through a tough fight, they discovered that they could simply walk around the dragon’s corpse, take the helm and leave.
Unfortunately, if you want Balduran’s Giantslayer, you’ll have to fight Ansur for it. Thankfully, as pointed out in the comments, you can simply distract the undead dragon and pickpocket it from him instead of going through the whole fight. For this you’ll require the wine barrel with the Kobold in it from the Githyanki Creche. Simply toss it next to Ansur’s body and steal the sword in the ensuing combat.
Other ways to beat him include doubling down on Globe of Invulnerability scrolls and using a Monk character to counter his movement and attacks.
These methods will ensure that you can get both items quickly and without putting yourself at risk of losing your honour mode run. You’ll also be better prepared for the final battle against the Netherbrain’s forces.
