Last night, Baldur’s Gate 3 picked up its eighth win at The Game Awards. The critically acclaimed RPG scooped six awards in 2023 and followed it up with a seventh last year, tying it with The Last of Us Part 2 as the most successful game at the ceremony, with the Naughty Dog title having won seven times in 2020.
Its eighth award last night took Baldur’s Gate 3 ahead of The Last of Us Part 2 in The Game Awards leaderboard, but unfortunately for the team at Larian, that honor didn’t last long.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Temporarily Became The Game Awards’ Most Successful Game Ever
Up until last night, Baldur’s Gate 3 and The Last of Us Part 2 were tied for seven awards each.
In 2020, The Last of Us won Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Audio Design, Best Performance, Innovation in Accessibility, and Best Action/Adventure Game. In 2023, Baldur’s Gate scooped the awards for Game of the Year, Best Performance, Best Community Support, Best Role-Playing Game, Best Multiplayer Game, and Players’ Voice, and it followed those up last year by retaining its Best Community Support crown.
When Baldur’s Gate 3 won its third consecutive Best Community Support award during last night’s show, the game became the outright most successful at The Game Awards, but it didn’t last long with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 breathing down its neck.
Every Winner At The Game Awards 2025
If you missed the show or just need a recap, we’ve compiled every winner of the 2025 Game Awards right here, complete with some handy facts.
By the time Baldur’s Gate 3 won its eighth award, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 already had five (Best Score And Music, Best Debut Independent Game, Best Independent Game, Best Art Direction, and Best Performance for Jennifer English), and it was still nominated in a further five categories.
In what felt like an inevitability, it won four of its remaining five (Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Role-Playing Game, and Best Narrative), only losing out on the Players’ Voice Award to Wuthering Waves, and quickly gazumped Baldur’s Gate 3 in the process.
There was less than 45 minutes between Baldur’s Gate 3 taking the “Most Successful Game Ever” crown and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 tying things up, and a further 17 minutes between Clair Obscur’s eighth and ninth win of the evening. These two gongs cemented the French RPG as the most successful game in a single night and the most successful game of all time at The Game Awards.
It’s hard to argue that any game deserves that feat more.
