Finding loot and putting it to good use is the core feature of Arc Raiders. Sure, there’s the combat component of fighting Arcs and other raiders, but the gameplay loop of the extraction shooter is primarily finding items and getting back to Speranza without dying, and it has been working perfectly. A trading system or marketplace could possibly ruin this perfect loop.
In a recent interview with GamesBeat, Embark CEO Patrick Söderlund confirmed that the game puts you in PvE lobbies if you play aggressively. However, it was another comment that got fans worried about the future of the game. When asked if the devs have any plans of adding a trading system like that of Escape from Tarkov to Arc Raiders, Söderlund said that they should allow it and that it might be fun.
Arc Raiders May Get A Tarkov-Style Trading System
“We’re going to want to do more of that because it’s fun,” replied Söderlund (31:15). “It’s a good part of the game. And I agree with you. We should do a lot more of the trading component of the game. Also allow people to trade amongst each other, etc. I think it’s fun. Something that we absolutely have to look at long term. I mean, there’s nothing that we’ve decided, but that’s the fun part of building something like this.”
While this isn’t an official confirmation, Söderlund repeatedly saying that it sounds “fun” could mean that the devs may look at adding it to Arc Raiders in the future. While more content is always great, players are worried that a trading system could potentially ruin the game. In fact, a few Escape from Tarkov players have given first-hand accounts of how it ruined the game for them.
Arc Raiders Should Have Been At Least Nominated For This GOTY Category
Arc Raiders Sound Design is fantastic, and it’s a real shame it didn’t get a nod at this years Game Awards.
“As a Tarkov player, let me share what the trading system did to the game. It made whatever you find not mean anything except for what its value is,” said one comment on Reddit. “Currently you have to make decisions based on what you would like to gain. Whether it’s metal parts, explosives, or a valuable trinket. Once trading is added, everything turns into a dollar value and that’s all that matters. Don’t add trading, keep looting how it is! People in raids will do trades as it is!”
Another Redditor pleaded with the devs not to add this feature to Arc Raiders. “As soon as this is introduced, your player count will plummet. Items will become meaningless and everyone’s loot will be marketplace orientated,” they said. “DO NOT ruin all of your good work by catering to the streamers who play 60 hours + a week, you will be left with a few thousand players sweating it out with the best loot in the game.”
