Love them or loathe them, live service games lend themselves well to digital downloads because, well, they constantly change.
Take a game like Zenless Zone Zero: at launch it was a kind of roguelike-style menu-based visual novel with action segments. These days it’s more like a traditional adventure game.
But that’s not stopping it from getting a physical PS5 release, with a Blu-ray disc that’ll be outdated the moment it arrives.
Okay, so this is more for collectors, and follows on from what dev HoYoverse did with Honkai: Star Rail.
In addition to the physical game disc, you’ll get the following items:
- An NFC Acrylic Modular Standee Stage with Anby Standee
- A Proxy Acrylic Avatar Card
- A Character Photo Card Set
- A Collector’s Character Badge
- A Collector’s Postcard
- An In-Game Redemption Code
That NFC stage has instantly caught our attention, because we’re assuming standees for other characters will be released in the future to interact with it.
Anyway, the point here is that this is effectively merch which just so happens to include a PS5 game disc with it. We’re not going to lie: we kinda want it.
Annoyingly, pre-orders are only open in the US for now at retailers like Amazon, and it doesn’t sound like there are any plans to bring this to Europe (yet). It’ll cost $59.99.
In other news, ZZZ’s next update – v2.7 – will launch on 24th March with two new playable characters: the third and final member of the Angels of Delusion, Ether Stun Agent Nangong Yu, as well as Electric Attack Agent Cissia of the Metropolitan Order Division.
In truth, the game is filling time until its anniversary update and new season later in the year, but a new hot pot minigame event looks like a lot of fun.
Oh, and the main storyline will focus on the Hollow Champion competition, which will bring back some familiar faces for a fun time before things really pick up again with v3.0.
Speaking of which, you can check out a teaser of the next major update embedded above.
