All Vocation Requirements In DQ7 Reimagined

Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined features a robust Vocation system that lets you customise your party members into virtually any role you desire. From straightforward Warriors to devastating Champions, the game offers dozens of classes to master across three tiers: Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced. Each Vocation grants unique skills, stat adjustments, and a powerful Let Loose ability that can turn the tide of battle.

The system unlocks at Alltrades Abbey, fairly deep into the main story, and expands further once Aishe joins your party and enables Moonlighting. This guide covers every Vocation in the game, including unlock requirements and which characters suit each class best.

How To Unlock Vocations

Getting the Career Sphere in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined.

Vocations and the ability to change them is unlocked through the main story, specifically once you reach Alltrades Abbey; this will be quite a long way into the game, so don’t worry if you feel like you’re missing something for a long time.

During the events in Alltrades Abbey, you’ll be granted the ability to change Vocations before the final fights of the events there, and upon completion of the area, you’ll be rewarded with the Career Sphere, which allows you to change Vocations at any point in the game without returning to the Abbey.

How To Unlock Moonlighting

Unlocking Moonlighting in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined.

Moonlighting is the ability to equip two Vocations at once, allowing you access to both Vocations’ skill lists and stat adjustments. This lets you create the hybrid characters of your dreams, widely expanding the roles they can fit into at a time.

Moonlighting will become available once you’ve recruited the fourth permanent party member, Aishe. Soon after, you’ll be contacted via the Career Sphere by Jacqui: go talk to her at Alltrades Abbey, and she’ll unlock the feature for you.

While the term ‘Moonlighting’ implies that the second Vocation may be ‘secondary’ in some way, it’s more accurate to consider it the ability to wield two Vocations at their full extents at the same time.

All Basic Vocations

The Vocation change menu with all three initial characters in new Vocations for the first time in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined.

When you initially unlock Vocations, you’ll only have the Basic ones to choose from. They are as follows:

Vocation

Description

Warrior

A straightforward physical class that learns a handful of potentially useful strategic skills but is mostly focused damage and tanking. Best suited to the Hero and Ruff.

Martial Artist

A swift physical attacker that focuses on raw power and speed, and has a very useful Let Loose that guarantees critical hits.

Mage

A fragile offensive spellcaster that learns the Frizz, Sizz, and Bang spell lines. Maribel excels here due to her high Magical Might.

Priest

The party’s primary healer Vocation, learning the Heal line, status cures, and resurrection spells.

Dancer

A support Vocation that has very useful abilities for increasing attack power and enabling tanking through Decoy Dance. Situational before Moonlighting, very useful after, however.

Thief

A speedy Vocation that revolves around status effects, so your mileage may vary with its utility. Situational, but capable of great things with the right enemy.

Troubadour

A support Vocation that’s a little more supportive than Dancer. Has some healing abilities and focuses mainly on elemental protection, so a little situational.

Sailor

A powerful damage dealer with great moves for dealing with normal enemy packs.

Shepherd

A utility Vocation with lots of regenerative spells and some status healing. Can perform their own combo with Woolly Blanket into Ram Raid, and is useful in most cases.

Jester

A utility Vocation based on inflicting status effects. Quite risky to use as they can skip turns, and status effects are not that useful in many cases, when compared to pure damage.

Mastering these Basic Vocations (by increasing your Vocation proficiency to the maximum at eight stars) is how you unlock further Vocations.

All Intermediate Vocations require that a character master two (or three, in the Luminary’s case) Basic Vocations.

Vocation

Requirements

Description

Gladiator

Warrior + Martial Artist

A physical attacker with a large array of damage-dealing moves, but not much else. Fantastic for Hero and Ruff.

Armamentalist

Warrior + Mage

A hybrid attacker with elemental physical attacks and both fire and ice spells. Oomph and Bounce are also learned by this Vocation, making it handy in many situations.

Sage

Mage + Priest

Very strong mage Vocation with single-target healing, multi-target wind damage, resurrection, and some buffing. Useful as an all-rounder magic Vocation.

Luminary

Dancer + Troubadour + Jester

A support Vocation with some very useful skills for buffing and healing, but also some late-development damage skills that shine in the lategame.

Pirate

Thief + Sailor

A physical attacker whose skills are best for groups of enemies over single targets. Great for dungeon-crawling as a result.

Paladin

Martial Artist + Priest

A tanky Vocation with decent healing abilities, including the rare Multiheal. Has unique skills to let them actually tank, another rarity. Great for Sir Mervyn.

Monster Master

Thief + Shepherd

An offensive Vocation that uses dark magic but also chance-based summoning skills that produce one of a few different effects based on the monster type summoned. Risky, but fun!

All Advanced Vocations

A party with everyone in Intermediate and Advanced Vocations in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined.

There are three Advanced Vocations in the game, each with specific unlock requirements.

Vocation

Requirements

Description

Champion

Both of the following mastered: Gladiator, Paladin

A very good combination of the two required Vocations, being physical attacker suitable for any situation. Great for Hero, Ruff, and Mervyn.

Druid

At least two of the following mastered: Sage, Luminary, Pirate

A magic Vocation with access to high-damage spells of most elements, the wonderful Omniheal, and even an MP-recovery skill. Perfect for Maribel or a magically-aligned Aishe.

Hero

At least three Intermediate Vocations mastered. Any will do, but there must be three of them.

An all-rounder that’s perfect for the Hero (naturally). Balances physical damage with magic attacks and healing support well, but would need extra support from allies to reach its full potential.
