While you’ll start your adventure in Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive as protagonist Sung Jinwoo, you’ll have the opportunity to unlock plenty of the other iconic Hunters from the hit anime series, too. Progressing through the story will require careful team comp selection and plenty of upgrading, so it’s best to get to work on your favorites early.
There are 20 Hunters you can unlock in Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive, and each one will have a different element in which they specialize, a combat role to play, and plenty of upgrades you can opt into making to ensure you’re fighting fit.
How To Recruit New Hunters
Three Hunters Unlock By Default
The game begins by putting you into the shoes of Sung Jinwoo, but you’ll only need to fight alone for a little while before being joined by a carefully selected team of Hunters to help you along the way.
You unlock two Hunters, Lee Joohee and Song Chiyul, for finishing the first chapter of the game, with a third, Yoo Jinho, joining the team after the second chapter. From there, you’ll need to wait until the end of chapter three before you can begin paying to recruit additional teammates paste these three freebie Hunters.
Additional Hunters Can Be Recruited Through Negotiations
If you’d like to try out different team compositions and play with new elements or combat roles, you can begin recruiting extra Hunters after the end of chapter three. When you get back to the main area finishing this chapter, you’ll be able to begin bringing new Hunters into the team.
To begin, speak with Lim Hajim on the bottom floor, and she’ll show you a list of three potential Hunters you can choose from to recruit right then. These Hunters appear to be selected at random from the list of 17 remaining Hunters in Solo Leveling: Arise Overdrive.
After parsing the information presented about the three potential choices and deciding which character you’d like to try recruiting, but be sure you’ve got some Hunt Coins stocked before you do, since you’ll need to negotiate pay with these characters before they agree to join.
When recruiting new Hunters, each one has a recruitment difficulty that will inform you of the general ballpark you’ll need to aim for with your Hunt Coins. Offering the Hunter the requisite minimum number of coins triggers a chance for them to accept your offer at face value, but they can (and probably will) reject if you’re not being generous enough.
Additionally, pay attention to the mood icon by the Hunter’s name, since Hunters that are happier are more likely to accept your offers than those who are neutral or unhappy.
You can adjust how many Hunt Coins you’re offering them at the bottom of the screen, and you’ll have three chances to make an offer to your chosen character. The likelihood they’ll accept is presented as a success rate percentage above the box that allows you to change your offer.
You’ll get some of your coins back from failed offers, but not all. Continue making offers you feel you have a good chance of having accepted. Should you fail to recruit them after your three attempts, the negotiation with that character will end without them joining your team of potential Hunters. You’ll need to wait for them to come up in Lim Hajim’s menu again before you can try again with them.
After selecting one Hunter from the list of possible recruits, you’ll have a cooldown period before being able to try another Recruitment with a new slew of Hunters. You can also opt to pay in Hunt Coins to decrease this timer.
If there’s someone you really have your heart set on getting when they show up on the recruitment selection menu, though, you can use Bounty Posters to coerce the Hunter to agree right away. You won’t get many of these, though, so use them wisely, typically with higher-difficulty Hunters.
