It’s hard to argue that anybody but Jennifer English deserved the Best Performance award at this year’s Game Awards. Her performance as Maelle in the record-breaking Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was stunning, oftentimes haunting, and she scooped the gong ahead of co-stars Ben Starr and Charlie Cox.
While that award may have been English’s first at the Geoff Keighley-fronted event, she now goes down as one of the most successful actors of all time, with games she has featured in scooping upwards of 20 awards.
And it seems that, if you want to win Game of the Year, all you have to do is hire her, as she’s now featured in three of the last four titles to have won the top award.
Jennifer English Is The Game Awards Golden Girl, Featuring In Three Of The Last Four Game Of The Years
Elden Ring, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 — What do they all have in common? Two things: they both won Game of the Year at The Game Awards, and they both featured actress Jennifer English.
While her role in Elden Ring was relatively small, playing Latenna, an NPC in the Albinauric Village (and later becoming a spirit), her roles in Baldur’s Gate 3 and Clair Obscur likely need no introduction. She played Shadowheart in the former and Maelle in the latter, missing out on a Performer of the Year nomination for Shadowheart but winning the award for Maelle.

“A Dream For Any Actor”: Ben Starr And Jennifer English Were Waiting For A “Special” Game Like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 To Follow Up Their Breakout Roles
The pair had the rare opportunity to build their characters from the ground up.
She’s the commonality between all three games, and her talent is clearly a big part of why they’re all being recognized.
English is relatively early in her career, having two minor roles in Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Augmented Empire in 2017. She then had a couple of on-screen roles before things really took off with games like Elden Ring in 2022 and Baldur’s Gate 3 in 2023. It’s frightening to think that somebody so early in their career in games has had such an impact.
