Capcom Is Sitting on a Goldmine of PS5 Announcements – But When Are They Coming?

Capcom’s currently sitting on a veritable goldmine of game-related announcements, and I’m just wondering when we’re going to get them.

The Japanese company’s obviously on an incredible run — a run that arguably started back with Resident Evil 7 in 2017. We’ve basically had a full decade of Capcom being one of the best publishers on the planet.

And the momentum simply never seems to end, with Pragmata earning rave reviews and capturing the hearts of millions of players just last month.

Now, to be clear, it’s not brand new game announcements that I’m referring to here. Capcom’s released not one, not two, but three bangers this year already (Resident Evil Requiem, Monster Hunter Stories 3, and the aforementioned Pragmata), so I’d be surprised if it’s got any huge surprises up its sleeve.

But even then, it’s still got far more to talk about than almost any other gaming company you can think of.

Onimusha Way of the Sword

Let’s break it down…

For starters, the Onimusha: Way of the Sword blowout is coming, and it’s probably coming very soon. This revival has looked superb ever since its initial reveal, and right now, we’re just waiting on an all-important date.

Next, there’s the Monster Hunter Wilds expansion, which is set to be unveiled this summer. This one’s going to be a massive deal for Capcom as Wilds has performed below expectations, despite its ridiculously popular start.

And then we’ve got the mysterious case of Dragon’s Dogma 2 — although the mystery’s starting to dissipate thanks to the developer’s recent teasing.

Unless Capcom’s genuinely trying to drive the series’ despairing fans insane, there’s clearly some kind of DLC in the works, and it should be the restart that the open world RPG needs.

They’re the three big ones, but there’s more to consider. There’s Resident Evil Requiem’s DLC, which we know is in development, and there’s Season 4 of Street Fighter 6. The latter is rumoured to include Final Fantasy 7’s Tifa as a guest character, which would be truly wild.

Monster Hunter Wilds

I should also point out the rumours that swirl around Devil May Cry. As stated, I don’t think Capcom’s ready to reveal anything major this year, but you’ve got to imagine that the next instalment’s cooking behind the scenes.

So when do I think all of this stuff is coming (minus Devil May Cry)? Well, next week makes a whole lot of sense. We’ve got PlayStation’s big State of Play on the 2nd June, and then it’s Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest just a few days later, on the 5th June.

Capcom could easily spread its announcements out between both shows… or it could host its own. Nothing’s been said on that front yet, but there’s more than enough excitement here to warrant the publisher setting up a ‘direct’ for itself.

Dragon's Dogma 2

But realistically, it’s probably going to be better off handing most of these reveals to broadcasts that promise much larger viewer numbers. We’ll at least know what the plan is if any of these announcements appear during the State of Play in a week’s time.
