If this leaked Virtua Fighter footage is real – and I certainly have no reason to doubt it – then we’re potentially looking at a true next-gen fighting game here.
The video, labelled Virtua Fighter Crossroads, shows over 90 seconds of gameplay featuring a number of characters, including previously announced stars like Stella (who looks identical to series stalwart Sarah) and Wolf, as well as what looks like Pai.
The video includes cutaways featuring interviews with dev RGG Studio staff, so I’m assuming this is part of an upcoming behind-the-scenes video, presumably planned to be released imminently.
Honestly, the animation work is utterly outstanding, even in this low-resolution format. The characters move so fluidly, it truly looks next-gen. I love the close-up animations of KO blows, too.
Obviously this game doesn’t have a release date just yet and RGG Studio has always been coy about when it’ll actually come out, but it really looks like it’s coming together now. I assume we’ll learn a lot more about this later in the year.
