Warhorse Studios, the developer behind the two Kingdom Come: Deliverance games, has today announced it is making an “open world Middle-earth RPG”.
The news confirms the rumours swirling around the studio, which were connecting the IP with the RPG team. Further, it also has “a new Kingdom Come adventure” in the works. The wording from Warhorse Studios suggests this could be something different from the two Deliverance titles, as it doesn’t bring up the subtitle in its social media post.
Either way, we probably won’t see anything from either project for quite some time. “We’re excited to tell you more when the time is right,” Warhose Studios said, indicating both games are still early in development.
What direction Warhorse Studios takes with its The Lord of the Rings game will be interesting, as the studio has made a name for itself on realistic and fairly complex mechanics and life simulator features. In the two Kingdom Come: Deliverance titles, you have to take care of your clothing, wash yourself, and be careful not to get caught in places you shouldn’t be. These kinds of considerations don’t usually make their way into the most mainstream games, which a Lord of the Rings experience would be.
It’s safe to say, though, the project is in the hands of a skilled RPG studio. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 launched last year to universal acclaim, earning a rare 10/10 score here on Push Square. We said: “Challenging, uncompromising, and thoroughly engrossing, it’s in a league almost entirely of its own.”
