The Blood of Dawnwalker is set to be a fairly hardcore role-playing experience, promising meaningful choice and consequence across a time-sensitive structure. It’s also supposed to have some rather challenging combat encounters.
But if, for whatever reason, that all sounds a bit too demanding for your tastes — or simply not demanding enough — then you should know that developer Rebel Wolves has stuffed a bunch of difficulty settings into the game.
This fresh info comes from the latest issue of Game Informer (as per MP1st), in which studio founder Konrad Tomaszkiewicz reveals the existence of four distinct options: Story, Normal, Duelist, and Nightmare.
They’re pretty self-explanatory, I suppose, but the key detail here is that he also confirms that there’ll be additional settings layered on top of the base difficulty that you decide on.
I’m assuming this means that you can tweak all the usual stuff like incoming and outgoing damage values, health pools, and other gameplay elements.
There’s even mention of an “omnidirectional” blocking system that you can enable, if you don’t want to deal with Dawnwalker’s direction-based parry mechanic (it’s a bit like what you’ll find in Kingdom Come: Deliverance). It apparently consumes more stamina, presumably for the sake of overall balance, but the option’s there if you want it.
That kind of thing makes me wonder just how far the customisation will go. I wouldn’t be surprised if you can rework other mechanics like main character Coen’s blood meter, for example, allowing you to refill your all-important blood at a different rate.
Just to recap, Dawnwalker looks very, very promising based on everything that’s been shown so far. It’s still on target for a PS5 release on the 3rd September — which is shaping up to be a seriously stacked month for new games.
