'There's Truth to It': Sony Considering Bringing Back Your Fave Franchises on PS5 1

Perception of PlayStation is at an all-time low, even as the PS5 itself closes on 100 million units sold.

Fans feel frustrated with Sony’s stand-offish approach to its community and its ill-fated investment into live service games.

But there may be some light at the end of the tunnel, with rumours of inFAMOUS remakes beginning to swirl. While source Jordan Middler warns he hasn’t been able to double-source the story, the speculation alone has energised the PlayStation fanbase.

And now fresh speculation comes courtesy of rock-solid leaker Nate the Hate, who says “there’s truth to Sony exploring and considering reviving some of its older, unused IPs”.

The snoop is one of the most reliable insiders in the industry, having recently outed Nintendo’s new Star Fox game. But it’s important to underline what he’s saying here: Sony is “exploring and considering” according to him – not necessarily doing it. (Yet.)

He was asked specifically about franchises like Sly Cooper, Ape Escape, and MotorStorm, but there’s obviously a treasure trove of titles in the firm’s back catalogue that could also apply here. Jak & Daxter, Killzone, Resistance, Gravity Rush, and more are all fondly remembered by fans.

As we noted in an article this weekend, we understand why Sony is chasing live service, and we don’t think it’s the wrong strategy at all. But its approach would probably have been better received if it hadn’t abandoned all of the fan favourite franchises listed above.

We wonder if the platform holder might increasingly explore pitches from talented indie teams, like with the recent God of War: Sons of Sparta. That game was a success for Sony, so why not entertain more pitches like it to keep some of these iconic franchises alive?

Whatever its approach, we hope these rumours are accurate. We’re excited for the potential of an inFAMOUS collection, and there’s so many franchises from Sony’s back catalogue we’d love to see revived.
