The first two inFAMOUS games are classics in the PS3 library, and there’s no great way to play them on modern hardware.
Rumour has it that Sony is working with an unnamed developer to bring them to the PS5, although the source says he’s only received word from one person in particular, and hasn’t been able to corroborate the story.
Since the rumour started circulating, though, fans have noticed that a 2022 Sucker Punch blog post has been removed, which said “we have no plans to revisit inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper right now, and no other studio is currently working on projects related to those franchises either”. Interesting.
While we’re a little tired of remakes in general, we would make an exception for inFAMOUS, because those games were always a little scrappy on the PS3.
Don’t get us wrong, we thoroughly enjoyed Cole MacGrath’s electrical exploits in Empire City and New Marais, but the two titles felt rough even by last-last-gen standards, with grimy low-res visuals and an inconsistent frame rate.
Remakes could really help tidy up the presentation, bringing it up to modern standards and locking down the performance.
We don’t think a massive amount would need to be tweaked to the gameplay, as Sucker Punch has always been the masters of smooth-feeling power fantasies. Some nice DualSense integration would be appreciated, we suppose.
Incredibly, the first inFAMOUS launched in 2009, so we’re talking an eye-widening 17 years ago here. Its sequel, from 2011, is 15-years-old. And we assume this bundle would include the standalone DLC spin-off Festival of Blood, even though it’s fairly weak compared to the main games.
Sony announced remakes of the original God of War Trilogy during a State of Play earlier this year, so clearly it’s not opposed to revisiting some of its biggest PS2 and PS3 era hits right now. Fans have been begging for more inFAMOUS for quite some time.
But how do you feel about all this? Would you be down to buy an inFAMOUS Collection on day one? Or would you need to know more about who’s developing and how they’re handling the project before you commit? Let us know below.
