Starfield PS5 Gets Yet Another Crash-Fixing Patch, Over a Month and Two Updates Later

Starfield PS5 Patch Crashing

It’s been over a month since Starfield launched on PS5, and the game still suffers from crashing issues.

Up until now, Bethesda has delivered two patches specifically targeting Sony’s console. Based on our own testing, these updates did seem to fix a number of crash-related problems, but the title remains a bit of a mess on a technical level.

This new patch handily numbered 1.16.242, aims to fix yet more crashing across all platforms. Just how many more of these things are we going to get?

The update’s available to download now on PS5, and the patch notes outline five key fixes:

  • Fixed a crash that could occur when viewing Creations.
  • Resolved a crash that could sometimes occur when making an autosave.
  • Resolved a crash that could occur when Creations contained legacy data.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when removing certain types of items in Outpost mode.
  • General crash and stability fixes.

That autosave one is, frankly, diabolical — only Bethesda could somehow screw up a game’s saving process.

Fingers crossed that this finally marks the end of Starfield’s crashes, although at this point, it’d be somewhat foolish to get your hopes up. One small step and all that…
