Dead Rising remains a series Capcom is actively considering for new entries and remakes despite the current period of dormancy it’s fallen into.
A remaster of the original game was released for PS5 in 2024, but besides that, you would have to go back to 2016 for the last mainline entry in Dead Rising 4. Now, the IP has appeared in a presentation slide in Capcom’s newest financial results that calls it one of the company’s “leading brands”.
It’s in a lineup that also includes Devil May Cry, Okami, Dragon’s Dogma, Ace Attorney, Onimusha, and Mega Man. All of these franchises are being nurtured to be the “next engine of growth” with “new IP, sequels, remakes, [and] ports”.
As it considers the business model for these IPs, it appears Capcom is also considering other media like movies and TV shows, arcades, esports, and character licensing for these properties alongside video games.
Last year, a report suggested a new Dead Rising game is currently in development, and it’ll take the zombie series to Hollywood. Frank West is supposedly returning in a story set after the events of the first title, where a deranged movie director is attempting to shoot the perfect film. The time limit and photo-taking features are rumoured to return in the suggested fifth game.
