A 40th anniversary Dragon Quest livestream will take place later this month, on 27th May – and everyone’s praying for a Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate update.
In a YouTube video which has since been delisted, series creator Yuji Horii confirmed:
“We’ll be doing a livestream on 27th May. I think we’ll be able to make an announcement about the next game. We’ll also have various other things besides the next game, so please look forward to it.”
As Gematsu points out, a similar event was held for Dragon Quest’s 35th anniversary in 2021, where a slew of games were announced, including Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake and Dragon Quest Treasures.
Ironically, Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate was also revealed at that event, but we haven’t seen anything in the five years since. Surely it’s time?
While Horii didn’t specifically mention Dragon Quest 12 in the aforementioned YouTube video, we have to imagine that’s what he was referring to when he talked about the “next game”?
Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age first released in 2017 on the PS4 in Japan, so it’s been almost ten years since that game. It was released worldwide in 2018, and re-released as the Definitive Edition in 2020.
Since then, Square Enix has been steadily growing the fanbase of the franchise globally with various re-releases and remasters, most recently with Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined earlier this year.
