Frogwares has today revealed a new and extended look at its next PS5 game The Sinking City 2, which sees the studio pivot towards more of a survival horror experience. The latest gameplay trailer narrows the title’s release window to this Summer, meaning launch is now just a few months away. Check it out above.
“Set in the Roaring ’20s, The Sinking City 2 is a survival horror steeped in Lovecraftian dread,” is the pitch from the team. “Defy an eldritch deity and explore the drowned alleys of Arkham, stalked by the dead, as you weigh one life against an entire city.”
With the sequel, Frogwares is shifting to a “horror-first” studio, and it believes the follow-up has helped it realise that ambition. “The leaps and progress we’ve made are clear to all of us on the team, and now we’re eager to see how it resonates with players, both new and our existing fans.”
The investigation-based gameplay of its past titles is still present, but The Sinking City 2 focuses on combat, survival, and exploration. The investigative side is now seen as a “beneficial layer” rather than the main point, according to game director Alexander Gresko. It’s now due for release on PS5 in the coming months.
