Here’s one that’s got to make you feel old: Final Fantasy X is celebrating its 25th anniversary this summer.
The beloved RPG, which first launched for the PS2 back in 2001, will be a quarter of a century old on the 19th July. And to help drum up some hype, Square Enix has opened a new website.
At the time of writing, said website’s content is aimed squarely (pun not intended) at the Japanese market. It features info on fresh Final Fantasy X merchandise, including character plushies, an art book, and a frankly stunning vinyl set of the game’s timeless soundtrack.
We’ll update this article if and when Square Enix confirms this stuff for the west.
We assume that the publisher will have more anniversary-related announcements to make as we creep closer to the date, but we’re not expecting any significant reveals.
Indeed, outside of a full remake, we’re not really sure what more could be done with Final Fantasy X at this point. The game’s fully playable — alongside its direct sequel — on modern consoles thanks to Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster, which released for the PS4 over a decade ago, in 2015.
