As you build an island in Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream, there are limitless possibilities for who and what you can create. However, everyone needs a little inspiration sometimes. With all the tools at your disposal, it’s easy to miss a few steps or change your mind later.
We’ll help you understand each step of the process, from designing a Mii’s face to assembling their wardrobe to match their personality. Everything you need to know is in our guide below, so take a look and see what you can do with your Miis to take them to the next level!
How To Make New Miis
To make new Miis on your island, you’ll need to open up the menu by pressing the plus button, then selecting the option to add a new Mii. Here, you’ll get to choose from several options, including making a Mii from scratch or using a pre-existing one as a base.
New Miis are exciting blank canvases, as you can design them however you like. There are several parts of the interface to familiarize yourself with, and we’ll break them down.
Designing The Face
First and foremost, you have to choose the look of the face. This includes skintone, eyes, hair, nose, mouth, and other facial features. You can add various lines to the face as well as facial hair, and there’s even options for glasses and beauty marks.
You can choose from a wide variety of colors for most features, so you can fully express yourself!
Choosing The Body
Once you complete the face, you have to decide what the body looks like. Are they short and stout or tall and thin? Mixing and matching these attributes can really help you diversify the island.
You’ll also need to choose the sound of your Mii’s voice. There are several pre-made options, but customization allows you to fully distinguish one Mii from another.
All Personality Types
Finally, you’ll need to choose a personality for your Miis. There are five aspects to choose from:
- Movement. How slow or quick a Mii moves.
- Speech. How polite or blunt a Mii is in conversation.
- Energy. How flat or expressive a Mii is.
- Thinking. How serious or relaxed a Mii’s thoughts are.
- Overall. How normal or quirky a Mii’s dreams are.
From these traits, you’ll get one of 16 personality types in the table below:

How To Edit Relationships
Before you finalize your Mii, be sure to set any real-world relationships! If you’re making Miis based on real-world people, like family members, you want to make sure that your personal Mii doesn’t pursue romantic relationships with them!
To prevent grandmas from dating cousins and so on, you’ll need to open the relationship menu and create connections between Miis. If you aren’t sure how two Miis are related or just don’t want them to date at all, then you can use the last option in the menu to just give them a vague connection.
You can set the Miis as spouses here to help further along their romantic relationship! It will still take some time though.
How To Edit Existing Miis
Once you create a Mii, it’s okay to change your mind. Rather than deleting them and starting over, you can just edit the way they look to maintain their progress on your island. To do this, check in on the Mii you want to edit, then open the list menu and select the option to edit their appearance.
You can also edit Miis via the Residents menu!
Changing The Face And Body
Editing a Mii opens up the full character creation menu. Here, you can essentially recreate your Mii without losing their relationships and levels. Change their name, face, personality, and body as often as you like to reflect your tastes or real-world changes.
Using Face Paint
Another great tool to use is face paint. This allows you to draw directly on the Mii’s face–either above or below the facial features. You can do anything from small makeup tweaks to a full character creation, depending on how creative you’re willing to be.
How To Change Outfits
All Miis will get outfits based on their personalities. These are simple, uniform outfits that showcase their status as a new Mii. To get more clothes, you’ll have to purchase them at the shop.
You can gift these clothes to your Mii as individual pieces or assemble an outfit as one piece. Miis can change their clothes in the same menu you edit them in, opening up their wardrobe and allowing you to dress them for any occasion.
