You know how scalpers ruin everything that exists? This corporate collaborations between perennially popular anime franchises and fried chicken fast food corporations. Although, truth be told, I’m not sure anybody can really blame Popeyes for not having enough collectibles to satisfy One Piece fans’ demand. The scalpers just invariably make things worse.
Indeed, One Piece and Popeyes have come together for a limited-time menu featuring a Luffy Bento Bundle, Gum-Gum Fruit Lemonade (which I hear is quite tasty), and Chopper’s Cupcake. Six locations in the United States were giving out actual Luffy-themed bento boxes, wooden-made and all, while supplies lasted. They didn’t last long. Lines formed around at least one of these stores, and naturally, eBay is now playing host to nearly a hundred boxes and counting.
For The Record, The One Piece Meal Comes With Two Pieces Of Chicken
As Dexerto reports, the Popeyes merch does appear to be popping off. Don’t be fooled by these $15 listings—these are the standard cardboard boxes seen across the nation. Which, I mean, I guess if you really want one… but yeah. I’m seeing a bunch of these, cited as “SUPER RARE” by some sellers. In the grand scheme, maybe? I guess? But it’s the real deal that collectors are truly after.
I’m not going to link to the big-priced fare because it’s bound to be scalper central. But the cheapest I’ve found is $150. As time goes on, and fewer and fewer of these are available, expect more of the ridiculous $1000 attempts to crop up. Here, courtesy of IGN’s intuition, is a page that at least charts the search results for this big-budget bento. See for yourselves. It’s wild.
There’s other stuff, like graphic tees, that you can purchase in celebration of the collaboration via Popeyes’ online storefront. Except, wait. Nope. There’s now a notice saying it’s all sold out. Said notice helpfully points out that you can still order food. So, er, there’s that.
