007 First Light Endgame Footage Leaks Online Thanks To Ratings Board

A significant security flaw in the backend of the Indonesian ratings board system has led to information about more than 1,000 games, many of which are unreleased, finding its way online. Some of that info includes gameplay footage, including scenes that seem to spoil the ending of the upcoming James Bond game, 007 First Light.

The flaw with the Indonesian Game Rating System (IGRS) was reportedly spotted over the weekend, according to VGC, although this story appears to have been developing on Reddit, and continues to do so as I write this as more details surface. The issue stems from someone building an alternative frontend for the IGRS website, during which they stumbled upon its rather worrying security problems.

First Light’s limited edition DualSense will go up for pre-order later this month.

Those problems left a lot of very private information available to the public. Now that information has been exposed, and a lot of it is circulating online. While the more worrying info available in the long term includes the contact details of high-level developers at big triple-A studios, it’s the gameplay footage from unreleased games that is included in some of those emails, most notably First Light, that’s catching people’s attention.

The 007 scenes found in those exposed emails have already started to circulate online. Not only do they seem to include significant story spoilers, but they also reveal how the game’s campaign ends. Less than ideal for the IO Interactive game which is still six weeks away from being released.

First Light Has Been Hit Hardest, But Lots Of Other Big Games Have Been Affected

While it’s the game that will grab the most headlines, First Light is far from the only unreleased game to have been affected. Echoes of Aincrad, the release date of which isn’t slated until July 10, has also suffered a significant gameplay leak as part of this flaw, with entire cutscenes finding their way online.

The Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake is also a part of the leak, as is the upcoming installment in the Castlevania series, Belmont’s Curse. Particularly frustrating for the former, as Ubisoft has had issues keeping the AC remake under wraps at the best of times. Now it’s finally in a place where it has readily admitted it exists, info about the Black Flag revival is once again making it out into the world before its creators are ready to share it.

The Black Flag and Belmont’s Curse leaks don’t appear to have come paired with gameplay footage, which is a silver lining for Konami and Ubisoft. Still, a leak on this scale, and from a source so official, seemingly due to poor security, is going to have potentially huge ramifications. Especially since, as noted above, while the First Light spoilers and leaks about other games will eventually blow over, the personal details of developers were a part of this leak, causing headaches for them and their respective studios in both the short term and the long term.
