Once you get past the prologue of Crimson Desert and start roaming around the map, you’ll easily get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of icons that appear on your minimap, especially in the main cities. Not only do these icons lead you to various traders where you can buy different gear, but a lot of them also lead you to free loot.
The strongbox chests are the perfect example of this. Sometimes, when you go around specific buildings, you’ll see a big chest icon displayed near you. When you get to its location, like in the Hernand Castle, you can solve a small puzzle to get the reward inside.
How To Find Hernand Castle Strongbox
If you haven’t located the Hernand Castle strongbox yet, you can start by teleporting to the Abyss Nexus in the city itself. Before you start going towards the strongbox, make sure you have a mask and at least one key. After spawning at the teleport point, follow the path going up to the castle on your left.
Keep following this path until you enter the castle, where you can take the right entrance into the hallway. As soon as you’re in the hallway, take the first exit on the right to see some stairs. Go up these stairs and continue going up until you reach a secluded room at the top, which you can open with a key to find the strongbox.

How To Solve The Hernand Castle Strongbox Puzzle
As you get close to this strongbox, you’ll notice that there are some musical keys that you can press when you interact with it. To unlock the reward, you have to press these keys in a specific order to make a tune. You can hear the required tune by interacting with the playback device on the right side of the strongbox itself.
The tune will play out for each time that you rotate the device, so you can do it a bunch of times to hear it while you figure out the correct order. However, if you don’t want to do all that work, you can simply press the keys in the following order:
- Row one key one
- Row two key four
- Row two key three
- Row two key four
- Row one key three
- Row two key one
- Row one key three
After successfully solving this puzzle, you can steal the box inside if you have a mask to get the Lavish Meal recipe. Wait for the theft meter to go down and you can then exit the castle.
There’s a lot of other loot in the small cabinets of this room, and it’s highly recommended to take it all.
