The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is effectively 98 minutes of wall-to-wall references. There’s even an entire sequence where Bowser Jr. creates what is basically a punishing Mario Maker level for Mario and Peach to struggle through. Naturally, that has resulted in quite a few people trying to recreate the Bowser Jr. level in Super Mario Maker 2.
Play Through Bowser Jr’s Security System In Mario Maker 2
The first example of the movie level being recreated in-game that I saw was the one created by a user called KoopsKngdm, or KoopsReturns on Twitter. The movie version of the level is littered with spinning fire bars, obstacles that are notoriously difficult to find your way over and around in 2D Mario games since their inception.
Nintendo Just Deleted Over 1,000 Mario Maker 2 Levels
Mario Maker levels are being deleted en masse, and an outed cheater might be to blame.
In the film, although they are in peril on multiple occasions, Mario and Peach eventually make it through to the end of Bowser Jr’s sick and twisted Mario Maker level unscathed. It wouldn’t be a very good movie if they both get burned up by fireballs or fall into a hot pit of lava now, would it?
I downloaded KoopsKngdm’s recreation and, unfortunately, I can’t say the same for my little Mario, nor the Mario that came after him, or the Mario after that. No, I died pretty quickly on my first few attempts. The only solace I took from that is it looks like pretty much everybody else did, too. See all those crosses? Each one represents a poor, dead Mario.
Other players can leave notes on the level for those who come after, and I really didn’t appreciate whoever left the long “aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa” right at the start, which, if you go too early, blocks your view of the first fire bars.
I Need To Know How This Level Ends
I did make it a little further into the level after a few more attempts, and I was pleased to see that, upon descending into the lava on my best run, there weren’t many red crosses on the screen. I didn’t make it to the end, but that applies to almost everyone who has tried out the movie-inspired level. At the time of typing this, there have been 34,000 attempts to complete the level, and only 161 of those attempts have been successful. That’s a completion rate of just 0.46 percent.
Mild spoilers for the Mario Galaxy Movie, but Peach and Mario make it out of Bowser Jr’s course by catching an updraft with Peach’s umbrella. Since my attempts to complete its recreation were not among the 161 successful ones, I’m unsure how KoopsKngdm replicated that part in Mario Maker. I will be returning to the level once I’m done writing this, though, so I might eventually find out, although I don’t like my chances.
