Morbid Metal is a roguelite hack-and-slash that features two biomes in its initial Early Access launch. Both scenarios present different corridors with waves of enemies and chests with rewards, but the most relevant part is the bosses at the end of the road. These represent challenging battles that will test your skills.
Saru is the first boss of the starting biome, Sublime Garden. This is a huge machine that looks like a cyborg ape, and it surely knows how to hit like one. Let’s go over the best tips to defeat Saru in Morbid Metal and emerge victorious.
How To Defeat Saru
First Phase
During the first leg of the fight, Saru will jump towards you and hit the ground with its fists. Be sure to dodge or run away, and you’ll have a few seconds to attack.
This can be followed up by a two-blow combo, where Saru attacks in front of itself. Again, you’ll have a short window to attack the boss after this move, and we recommend focusing on its back so it can’t attack you back.
Before starting the fight, try to fill your Protocol Gauge and have your Super Skill ready so you can start the fight dealing a good chunk of damage against the boss.
You’ll see Saru’s body glow red before the boss hits the ground with both fists, creating a shockwave that moves around the arena. You can easily jump over it, but if you want to be really smart, you can start attacking Saru’s back while in the air as you see it glow red — the fists attack won’t reach you if you’re airborne.
The last thing that you should know during this phase is that Saru will jump away from time to time and repeat the shockwave attack, but twice in a row. Just be sure to jump at the right time, and you’ll be fine.
Second Phase
When you deplete Saru’s first health bar, the machine will jump to a higher platform, and the second phase will begin. From said platform, it will start shooting you with its fists, one at a time.
The boss will repeat this four times, and what you have to do is run to one side of the arena, and press dodge before the fist is about to impact — this way, you’ll be sure you won’t suffer any danger.
You will see a red circle on the ground showing where the fist will land.
After the fourth projectile, Saru will descend by jumping to where you are. Here comes the tricky part: after hitting its chest a couple of times and screaming, the lock-on feature will disappear. Controlling the camera to perfectly see Saru in this moment can be difficult, so just count three seconds after the scream and then press dodge to one side.
If you don’t have your health upgraded, Saru can knock you out with only a few attacks, so be sure to dodge everything.
After Saru falls, it will hit the ground with one fist, and three shockwaves in a row will be thrown. Apart from jumping over them, be sure to attack the boss while you’re in the air.
Keep in mind that you won’t have another chance of dealing damage to Saru, because the boss will jump to the platforms as soon as the shockwaves stop.
Third Phase
For the last phase, Saru will start by shooting multiple fists in front of it. Run to one side, and you’ll be safe. Then keep an eye out for the boss’s jumps toward you.
Saru will perform the blows combo from phase one and also mix it with a first to the ground and a shockwave. One thing that you should be aware of is that when it’s charging its body, three laser beams will come out, and you have to press dodge to avoid them.
If you see Saru charging an arm with electricity, you can attack the boss and then run away, because it will shoot a device to the ground. If you pass by the device, it will become activated and emit a couple of shockwaves to jump over.
The last thing you need to be careful with during this phase is that Saru will shoot more lasers, but one at the height of its arms — just don’t jump when you see them coming (Saru’s chest glows red), and attack the boss while you’re on the ground.
Saru’s Boss Fight Rewards
When you defeat Saru, you’ll unlock the second biome, Steel Sanctuary, where the third playable character is waiting. Also, you’ll earn a Soul Core.
