Cyberpunk 2077 has always been a game that has really pushed the boundaries of what is possible when it comes to tech, both in a game and literal sense. Over the years, CD Projekt Red has tweaked and tuned the game to have it running as well as it possibly can, and look as good as it can, giving players an almost unlimited amount of options to really make their rigs sweat.
Because of this, it was always a little odd that the game was still waiting for an official PS5 Pro update, as you’d assume a tech-obsessed developer like CD Projekt Red would be well on board. Thankfully, the studio couldn’t resist the allure of making Cyberpunk 2077 look a little bit better on PlayStation’s fancy new machine, and announced last month that a PS5 Pro update would be coming.
Cyberpunk 2077’s PS5 Pro Update Is Almost Here
Thankfully, the wait between the announcement and release hasn’t been very long, as CD Projekt Red has now announced that the PS5 Pro update is finally dropping tomorrow, on April 8. On top of that, the studio’s global art director, Kuba Knapik, has also outlined exactly what we can expect from the update in a recent PlayStation Blog post. For starters, the PS5 Pro will be able to make use ofPlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) to deliver enhanced detail never seen before on PlayStation consoles, while ray tracing will improve the game’s lighting, shadows, and reflections.

It’s also explained that the update will bring with it three modes for ray tracing, each one with its own benefits. For those o you that value visuals over everything else, a Ray Tracing Pro mode will enable all ray tracing enhancements, making the game look stunning, all while targeting 40fps on displays with VRR.You then have Performance Mode, which will put frame rate above all else, allowing PS5 Pro users to reach up to 90fps on displays with VRR, while a standard Ray Tracing mode has been added as the “sweet spot” to give players both great visuals and 60fps gameplay.
They sound like pretty great improvements, and as a frame rate guy, I’m honestly looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077 running better than it ever has done on my PlayStation.
