Star Fox Reboot Might Focus On Humor

If recent rumors are to be believed, Fox McCloud and Co. are apparently making a major comeback later this year on Nintendo Switch 2 to the tune of a brand-new video game, the first Star Fox title since Star Fox Zero for the Wii U in 2016.

Whenever the Star Fox reboot is announced and then subsequently released, the game will apparently be very funny, at least that’s what one insider is reporting.

In a new episode of Video Games Chronicle’s “VGC Podcast,” Alex Donaldson shared what he had heard about the in-development project, noting that humor seems to have a prominent part.

“So, being honest, I have heard this is possibly a thing, and the thing that was said to me was, ‘Oh, the game is really funny,’ and that suggests perhaps the writing is a focus,” he said.

Past Star Fox titles wouldn’t necessarily be classified as “funny,” though there are some cheeky one-liners. That humor seems to be a focus makes it seem like Nintendo is taking a cue from Fox McCloud’s big screen debut in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. There, the Glen Powell-voiced Fox, is particularly cheeky, going as far as to note that, contrary to popular belief, he does not have robot legs.

They’re really just cool boots.

Everything We Know About Star Fox’s Return

On the back of Fox being revealed as a character in the recently-released The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, there was out sized hope from longtime Star Fox fans that the franchise could be gearing up for an imminent return. No mind, that bit was later reported shortly after.

As far as details are concerned, the Star Fox title is apparently coming at some point in 2026, alongside a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It’s supposed to be a classic-style game, per previous reports, and visuals will be a major highlight.

Not only will there be a single-player component, but there will also be multiplayer as well. All of that should be music to any Star Fox fan’s ears, as the franchise has been dormant for nearly a decade now.

The only thing we don’t know is when exactly Nintendo will lift the lid on its latest title. Summer feels like a prime bet given all the other happenings, but as we’ve learned throughout the years, Nintendo really just does its own thing.
