If you’ve missed the online chatter, Crimson Desert is a rather large video game. It was immediately clear to me during a six-hour preview I did earlier this month, when I spotted the game had 3,000 pieces of knowledge to find, but even I couldn’t comprehend the size and scale of what players are finding now that it’s out.
It’s the type of game that will take hundreds of hours to complete, and years for players to collectively explore every facet of Pywel’s map. It goes without saying, then, that its PlayStation Platinum Trophy is an absolute grind to earn. That’s not stopped some players, though, as the first platinums have begun to roll in.
The First Players Have Begun To Get Crimson Desert’s Monstrous Platinum
According to PowerPyx, a reliable, long-running PlayStation trophy site, Crimson Desert’s Platinum will take 300+ hours to complete because of its “lengthy story, many time-consuming challenges, huge map, lots of side content.” While a lot of these trophies aren’t particularly difficult, they take a lot of time to complete, including exploring the whole map, finding every weapon of each type, and winning in every minigame.
It’s likely this estimate is a little high, given players would need to dedicate 25 hours a day, every day of the game’s 12 days since release, to earn the Platinum; that hasn’t stopped some, though, who have evidently streamlined the process to focus solely on the trophies.
While many tracking websites are still showing the Platinum as having a 0.00 percent completion rate, the game’s PlayStation page is now showing that 0.01 percent of players have the Plat.
Such is the time-consuming nature of these trophies, only three out of 34 (3/35 if you include the Platinum) have more than a 0.1 percent completion rate. It’s almost a given that many of these players have gone on to achieve the Platinum.
It’s no surprise to see the game already building a hardcore fanbase. Despite middling critical reviews and early Mixed Steam reviews, a range of updates addressing Crimson Desert’s biggest issues have turned the game’s fortunes around. It now sits at Very Positive on Steam, and sentiment on forums like Reddit seems to be increasingly healthy.
