Nobody wants themselves or their companions to become Mind Flayers in Baldur’s Gate 3. The choice is made even easier after The Emperor reveals he has been gaslighting you all this time. However, once you hit the game’s final stretch and are accompanied by Orpheus after his ceremorphosis, you realise just how powerful Mind Flayers are.
In fact, you may even be tempted to turn yourself into a Mind Flayer on your next run. Unfortunately, this is only possible once you pass the game’s point of no return, so you can’t really experience the entire game as an Illithid. But, all things are possible through mods, including playing through BG3 as a Mind Flayer.
Ceremorphosis The Way
Thanks to Illithid: Playable Mind Flayer by RobbingRoses, you’ll now be able to play the entirety of Baldur’s Gate 3 as a Mind Flayer. Of course, this changes a lot of things lore-wise, so the creator came up with a bit of filler lore. “The Artifact didn’t quite catch you in time, allowing for partial Ceremorphosis! Will you join the Absolute in world domination, or will you fight your Illithid nature and save Baldurs Gate?”
Of course, a Mind Flayer is nothing without psionic powers. Psychic Suggestion allows you to easily convince people, while Minor Mind Blast delivers 2d6 Psychic damage in a cone. Hidden Nature is a tweak on Disguise Self that allows you to project the likeness of a humanoid whenever you want; wouldn’t want the city to panic with a Mind Flayer running around, would we.

Playing the entire game as a Mind Flayer also adds to the conflict towards the end, where you need to choose between destroying the Netherbrain or giving in to your new nature. The only drawback of this mod is that it uses the fledgling Mind Flayer model. It would have been great if we could have used the more mature model that The Emperor and other Illithid in the game have. Perhaps the creator can include it in a future update.
