Reunion Early Steam Reviews Are Stronger Than Double Exposure

Reunion Early Steam Reviews Are Stronger Than Double Exposure

Life is Strange: Reunion launched yesterday, but there wasn’t much fanfare. Many fans have commented on the release sneaking up on them, complaining about a lack of advertising and the surprisingly quick turnaround after Double Exposure.

What doesn’t help matters is the lack of reviews. Outlets such as ours were either offered codes at launch or so close to launch that a review would be impossible. While this definitely isn’t unheard of (Baldur’s Gate 3 codes came in three days before launch, and Silksong codes weren’t available pre-launch at all), this was completely unexpected for Life is Strange.

Now, if early user scores are anything to go by, it looks like Reunion could be an improvement on Double Exposure. Steam reviews are currently averaging out at “very positive”. This is up from Double Exposure, which was met with “mixed” reviews, with complaints about the story and how it handled Max and Chloe’s past relationship.

Life Is Strange Fans Appear To Be Enjoying Reunion So Far

Chloe has a conversation with Amanda in Life is Strange: Reunion.

Right now, many of the positive reviews are from those who clearly wanted to see Max and Chloe together and hated Double Exposure for breaking them up.

“100 percent better than Double Exposure,” reads one review. “You don’t even need to play that game to understand this game. They perfectly recap what happened in the last game because the game doesn’t even want you to play it. Devs clearly listened that they’re sorry for mistreating fans [by] doing Max/Chloe dirty in the previous game.”

Many other pricefield shippers make this point. “Retroactively makes Double Exposure much better as it’s now part 1 of a duology with Reunion,” another says. “It’s a game made for Pricefielders.”

On the other hand, the negative reviews come from those who enjoyed Double Exposure and are disappointed to see Reunion ignore so much of it. “Literally Nostalgia slop for Chloe x Max fandom,” a negative reviewer says.

Others complain about performance issues, although some say it was just fine on their PC, so be mindful of the specifications.

Over on console, Reunion is going down with fans even better. It has a rating of 4.83 out of five on the PlayStation store, which is also an improvement from the last game.

Still, we’re waiting on the reviews from critics so we can see what the Metacritic score ends up looking like. So far, the series ranking is:

  1. Life is Strange – 85
  2. Life is Strange: True Colours – 81
  3. Life is Strange 2 – 78
  4. Life is Strange: Before the Storm – 77
  5. Life is Strange: Double Exposure – 73
