Baldur’s Gate 3 received a hotfix last night to fix the crashing issues the last hotfix brought. While this is a welcome move for those who have been complaining about the issue, there are already complaints about how long the hotfix takes to install. Steam shows that the update is just about 65 MB, but players have reported it taking upwards of 45 minutes to install.
Checking various forums like Steam and Reddit might reveal different file sizes, making it all a bit confusing. This is because of the way these updates work. While the size of the actual update may be small, it requires additional space to unpack files, patch the large existing files, and repack or re-compress them, taking up more space and time than you’d expect.
Latest Baldur’s Gate 3 Hotfix Aimed At Crashing Issues
“Our last small update, which aimed to resolve corrupted savegames affecting a number of players, seemed to have also introduced some performance issues that triggered crashes. Thank you for your patience while these were investigated!” said the patch notes by Larian.
Among the issues fixed in this hotfix are:
– Fixed a framerate drop and eventual crash when loading a savegame.
– Fixed a bug on Xbox where tooltips in the Inventory and Trade windows wouldn’t display correctly.
– Fixed a bug on Mac preventing you from progressing past Character Creation after starting a character introduction cinematic on Honour Mode.
Larian has previously stated that Patch 8 was the last one that would feature any new content, and following updates would only include fixes or improvements. Unfortunately, the last hotfix resulted in numerous players reporting crashing issues, and the one launched last night is intended to fix them.
There are still other bugs and issues that players have been complaining about, like Karlach’s romance not triggering or frame rate issues in certain places. However, these seem to be on a case-by-case basis, and haven’t been addressed in yesterday’s hotfix.
