On March 26 at 7:15pm in Tokyo, police were inundated with 110 calls (Japan’s version of 911) after a woman had reportedly been stabbed within a Pokemon Center in Sunshine City, a complex located in Higashi-ikebukuro. The Pokemon Center in question was the world-famous Pokemon Center Mega Tokyo, the largest of its kind and the chain’s flagstone location.
It was reported by many onlookers and investigators that a man with knives in both of his hands had been going on a rampage within the store, which resulted in the stabbing of a young female store employee in her 20s. After the attack, reports claimed that the man turned the knives on himself, and he cut his own throat.
At the scene, both the female Pokemon Center employee and her attacker were found unconscious, but according to Japanese media, both were sadly declared dead by the time they reached the hospital.

The incident has been circulating on Japanese social media, with seemingly live scenes recorded outside the Pokemon Center. In the video above, we can see several people fleeing from the scene and employees ushering people to safety, with parts of the store upended and messy. There also appears to be a person laid on the ground in the distance, most likely the attacker due to the dark clothing. It’s also worth noting that even though this video seems to be legitimate, there is no definitive proof this is video footage from the scene itself.
According to Japanese news outlets, it’s currently unconfirmed whether the attacker and the victim knew each other, with some speculation that the attacker could have been a stalker gone haywire. For now, all we know is that a young woman’s life has been cut short in a place that is supposed to be full of joy and happiness, and that in itself is a tragedy.
