Capcom Admits Pragmata’s Diana Looks A Lot Like Mega Man

There’s less than a month to go until the release of Pragmata, and no matter how much it might try to avoid it, some people still think Capcom’s new IP is really a secret Mega Man game. Taking a “can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em” approach at this stage, it seems the studio has decided to lean into the fun theory with a few weeks left to go.

The Long-Running Pragmata Is A Secret Mega Man Game Theory

The Pragmata is a secret Mega Man game theory is born from Diana, the game’s child-like Android companion, bearing a resemblance to the iconic Capcom platforming mascot. I say resemblance – they’re both small and wear the same shade of blue. They also both heavily lean on tech and fire stuff out of their hands using cannons, I guess. It all feels a little like Mega Man fans grasping at straws, but it’s been a fun theory nonetheless.

So fun that Capcom has finally decided to get in on it. The studio used Pragmata’s Twitter account to share an image of Diana next to a blurry image of what is clearly Mega Man. “Everyone says I remind them of someone! Want to take a guess who it is?” Capcom’s caption reads, along with an emoji trying to hide its laughter.

You might think an acknowledgement by Capcom that Diana looks a bit like Mega Man would have sent the platforming mascot’s fans into a state of frenzy, and that they’re taking it as confirmation that their long-held theory is true after all. I’m sure there are fans out there doing exactly that, but it seems most have recognized this is just Capcom having a little fun with them.

A lot of the replies to the Pragmata post are memes and jokes. Someone has reacted with a “Who’s that Pokemon?” video, while another jokes that Diana looks more like Vergil from Devil May Cry. There are, naturally, some taking it a little more seriously, including one fan who has zoomed in on Diana’s arm to highlight just how much it looks like Mega Man’s Mega Buster.

Before you get your hopes back up too much, remember that we are actually getting a new Mega Man game. Mega Man: Dual Override, and it was the reveal of that new game that finally prompted Capcom to acknowledge the Pragmata theory so that it could be laid to rest.
