Gale of Darkness Dominated By Shiny Eevee Hunters

Gale of Darkness Dominated By Shiny Eevee Hunters

In case you missed it, Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness is finally available on Nintendo Switch 2 via its Nintendo Classics program. The GameCube title is now available for all with a subscription to enjoy, though unfortunately, unlike the FireRed and LeafGreen re-releases, it’s not a standalone purchase and there’s no Pokemon Home compatibility.

Still, a win is a win, especially considering how much copies second-hand for Gale of Darkness now run.

Pokemon Was Better When The Console Games Were More Like XD: Gale Of Darkness

The weird GameCube Pokemon RPG remains special 20 years later.

Now that the game is officially out, all anyone can think of is getting a shiny Eevee. Except, it isn’t as easy as it sounds, at least compared to how accessible shiny hunting is in the newer titles.

Like FireRed and LeafGreen, there’s a ton of soft resetting required, meaning you have to reset your game from the beginning, hoping that shiny Eevee is finally in your inventory. If not, it’s rinse and repeat until then.

Up and down the XD Gale of Darkness sub, people are sharing their shiny journeys, with some detailing just how many repeats it’s taken. One user spent the entirety of their day before their shiny dreams came true. That seems to be par for the course, and the hardcore shiny fans aren’t letting up until “Peevee” is in their possession.

The only unfortunate part about all this is that there’s no transferring any of these Pokemon. Getting a Shiny Eevee in your possession really is just for bragging rights because it can’t go anywhere else.

Shiny Fever Has Taken Over Pokemon Fans In Recent Weeks

XD: Gale of Darkness isn’t the only game filled with shiny hunters refusing to play until they get their wish granted. Because on the other side, FireRed and LeafGreen players are doing the same thing in the Game Boy Advance re-release, soft resetting their game until one of Charmander, Squirtle or Bulbasaur are shiny.

FireRed and LeafGreen have traditional shiny odds set at 1 in 8,192 Pokemon, or 0.012 percent odds, and until Professor Oak’s lab spawns a shiny starter, you must constantly replay the beginning of the game.

It took one person over 12,000 tries before they got a Shiny Bulbasaur, which seems a little egregious considering the odds, but such is the hand they were dealt. Elsewhere, players stuck in the 1,000s wondered if it was worth it to keep going.

“Around 2 hours in, I realized I’d rather just play the game,” one user said on Reddit.

There was even one user who was so stuck in the mode of soft resetting their game that they soft reset after nabbing a shiny, essentially resetting their odds back to zero. There’s no doubt that’s happened to someone in XD: Gale of Darkness.
