The Withered Wasteland in Pokemon Pokopia is home to one very stubborn water wheel puzzle that tends to stop a few in their tracks. At first glance, it looks like something you should be able to fix on the spot, but the game has other plans.
If you have been poking around the area trying to force it to work, you are definitely not alone. This is one of those moments where progression, not persistence, is the real solution. With the right setup, though, getting things flowing again becomes much simpler and a lot more satisfying. Here’s what you need to know.
How To Fix The Withered Wasteland Water Wheel
To properly fix the water wheels, you will need to head to the Bleak Beach area, found through the entrance beyond the crops section, which is typically the second or third region depending on your route through the game. O
nce there, progress through the questline until you meet Piplup. Completing Piplup-related quests eventually rewards you with an ability that lets you absorb and carry water. This is the mechanic that makes the entire puzzle possible.
If you have finished the storyline in Bleak Beach but still haven’t unlocked this, continue doing Requests in the region and speaking to Piplup. Eventually, he will grant you the water pickup ability. It may take awhile.
After unlocking the water ability, find a body of water in the Withered Wasteland area and use the absorb action to collect it. With water stored, approach the inactive water wheels. You can place the water anywhere nearby, so choose a spot that will clearly feed into the wheel mechanism. Once you release the water, it will create a new water source that automatically begins turning the wheel.
Repeat the same process if you want to activate the second wheel. Collect more water, bring it back, and place it in a position that feeds into the remaining mechanism. Once both wheels are supplied, they will spin continuously, and the surrounding area will begin to fill with water as intended.
