Myurdin arrives near the end of act seven, and you finally get to face off against the big bad from the start of Crimson Desert. This boss fight is not an easy one, and, as far as I can tell, it actually has some wipe mechanics built in. Either that, or some extremely deadly explosive barrels that seem to instantly kill you.
This guide covers how to prepare for the fight – including gear and food – as well as mechanics guides for both phases of the fight.
Myurdin Preparation
I thought I was quite well-geared for the Myurdin fight, as most of my gear was at the max level without having to invest Abyss Artifacts and rarer resources.
I think this is about the minimum you’d need for this fight:
- Tier four Canta Plate Helm
- Tier four Canta Plate Armor
- Tier three Grey Wolf Bow
- Tier four Hernandian Noble Cloak
- Tier five Tauria blade
- Tier four Sunset Reed Gloves
- Tier four Odecka’s Plate shoes
- Tier three and four jewelry
As well as the refinement levels on this gear, at this point, I’d slotted three Abyss cores into my sword: Crow’s Pursuit, Crimson Rose Of Sin, and Wind Slash. You can remove the Abyss cores from other boss weapons and then slot them into your current weapon at the Witch.
In terms of skills, I’ve leaned heavily into maxing Health and Stamina and completing all sword-related abilities in Kliff’s skill tree.
Food Preparation
Like all the other boss fights in Crimson Desert, food is key. I had a large stockpile of Chewy Rice Cakes by this point, purchased from Ronnie at the Greymane Camp. These items replenish every day, which means you can get a lot of them while just completing other tasks and returning periodically to the camp.
I’ve also made a point of completing as many tasks in Pywel that give me Inventory Space – these are done by completing noticeboard quests in towns – to the point that I currently have 140 slots. This gives me lots of space to hoard other food items that I find while exploring. I had excess food for this fight, which is recommended.
You can craft Palmar Pills, which offer you a 30 percent revival. These are really handy if you die when the boss is at very low health. Beware, though, often the boss might not give you the opportunity to move, and you might just die instantly again.
Phase One
During phase one, Myurdin moves quickly, and it can be a pain to block and parry his many slams and flurries of attacks. The best strategy I found for this first part is to a) stay away from the barrels at all costs, these will explode and kill you, and b) wait for openings when Myurdin has slowed down.
When he is standing still, Blinding Flash with your sword and then use Palm Force to stagger him. Repeat this as many times as possible in the fight to get the maximum amount of damage on Myurdin.
During this phase, Myurdin will crouch and go onto all fours. Don’t try to fight him during this mechanic, as he is too quick. Just dodge and block until he returns to normal.
I found the Heavy Attack to also be quite useful in this fight, as you can chain together a Blinding Flash, Force Palm, and Heavy Attack to stunlock Myurdin for a short period of time.
Phase Two (Lava Myurdin)
The second phase of the fight – when Myurdin transforms into Lava Myurdin – is much harder, because Myurdin goes into a total flurry of flame abilities, including flame charges where he turns into a massive bear made of lava and some massive slam attacks that dealt most of my health in damage.
Because everything’s on fire, this makes the explosive barrels around the edge of the arena are even more deadly. A slam attack into a barrel is basically a wipe mechanic.
When he is in his lava bear form, he will attack three or four times. Dodge these where possible. Don’t try to engage with Myurdin while he is in this form.
The tactics are basically the same as in the first phase: wait until Myurdin slows down, then use Force to stagger him. I found it very difficult to use Blinding Flash, so I just had to rely on Force Palm to stagger him.
Be patient and dodge and block until you see an opening. Don’t try to attack too blindly, as Myurdin will just dodge your attacks anyway.
Boss Fights That Genuinely Made Me Question Whether I Could Beat The Game
There’s always that one boss.
