While not quite as bad as 6, Resident Evil 5 is considered one of the weakest entries in the Resident Evil franchise. It still sits at a very respectable 83 on Metacritic, but players felt it was lacking the series’ typical Resident Evil identity, and it was described as being “racially insensitive” in its depictions of Western Africa.
The game certainly faced its share of criticism, but AI aside, Sheva Alomar, one of its protagonists, is widely regarded as great. Now, in a new interview, Resident Evil stalwart Nick Apostolides, who stars as Leon Kennedy in a variety of games, has revealed that Alomar is one character he’d love to team up with.
Nick Apostolides Would Love Leon Kennedy To Team Up With Sheva Alomar
Speaking on the Friends Per Second podcast following the release of Resident Evil Requiem, Apostolides was asked whether there were any characters he would like to see Leon interact with in the mainline games that he hasn’t.
“I always fantasize about cool partnerships,” he said. “I have always thought that Sheva Alomar from Resident Evil 5 is such an amazing protagonist. Underutilized. I just love her character. I wish they would bring her back in a new mainline game. I think it’d be really cool to have them team up.”
I just love her character. I wish they would bring her back in a new mainline game.
Alomar’s only appearance in a Resident Evil game so far was in Resident Evil 5, so a return would be a very welcome surprise.
Podcast host Jake Baldino suggested that he would love to see Kennedy in a proper fight against Albert Wesker, archnemesis of Chris Redfield, which received a grin and a nod from Apostolides.
Apostolides interview with the Friends Per Second gang follows ours with the actor here at TheGamer. The actor talked us through his return to the franchise, how he planned to play the game with his brother, how he came up with Leon’s most iconic lines, and how he dealt with the character’s sexualization. The full interview is worth a read, if I do say so myself.
