How To Play With Friends In Pokemon Pokopia

How To Play With Friends In Pokemon Pokopia

In Pokemon Pokopia, one of the best parts about playing the game is playing with friends. You can spend hours with friends just developing your island into whatever shape you can imagine.

Whether you want to have faraway friends visit your island through online play, or you want to work together to build something fresh, there’s an option for every type of online play, from a full sandbox you can create to just showing off your own towns. So, how exactly do these work, and what do you need to do to visit other islands? Here’s everything you need to know.

How To Play Online

There are three main ways you can play with friends in Pokemon Pokopia. You can invite others to visit your town, you can visit a friend’s town, or you can play on your own Cloud Island.

All of these options work for both local and online play. You will be given a display link code to share with players so they can find your town and join you. Each mode supports up to 4 players.

Invite Others To Visit

This option allows you to have friends either locally or online visit your town. While in your town, they will be forced into Spectator Mode. They cannot access certain moves, and they cannot use items. This mode is strictly for showing off your town to friends. If you’re looking for your friends to help you build up your town, you’ll have to go to Palette Town.

Inviting friends from Palette Town gives them access to help you cultivate the area in your town, though it’ll still be limited based on your current options.

Visit A Friend

You can go to a friend’s town either locally or online, but you will be placed in Spectator Mode. You won’t be able to edit your friend’s town; however, you will be able to make changes to their Pallete Town.

Your abilities will carry over and work in your or your friend’s Palette Town, so the more progress you have unlocked in the main story, the more you can do in Palette Town when visiting.

When visiting friends, all items held by players other than the host will be removed from their inventory and be left in the Lost & Found box near the PC in Palette Town, leaving the host to pick them up.

Cloud Island

Create a unique world where you and your friends can do everything together, almost like a separate server that you can connect to in online mode.

How To Unlock Cloud Island

Before you can jump right in with friends, you’ll need to gain access to Link Play in Pokopia. To do this, get your town to at least environment level 1 after booting up the PC and unlocking the Withered Wastelands.

Once done, you can select the Link Play option in the bottom left of the PC menu to get started.

How To Play On Cloud Island’s

Cloud Islands are a different world all their own. They’re similar to having your own server, where you and those with your Cloud Island code can access the Island at any time, even when you aren’t there.

You can allow others to play on the island freely, unlike in Palette Town. This means they have free rein to do as they please on your Cloud Island.

If you don’t want this, you can set your Cloud Island to Enable Virtual Mode, only allowing others to visit but not make changes. You can set a Link Code to ensure only those you know have access if you’d like.

If someone has the code to your Cloud Island, they can still make changes to the Island even if it’s set to Enable Virtual Mode only.

Cloud Islands generate as random worlds. Anyone can work on your Cloud Island, meaning that the more people who have the code, the more people who can come in and edit your island.

There’s still a cap of only four players on an island at once, though once one leaves, another can rotate in.

To create a Cloud Island, head to the Link Play menu, choose Play on a Cloud Island, and either Search for a new Cloud Island to enter a friend’s code or Create a new Cloud Island to create your own. This will generate a Link Code and address you can share with friends.

Alternatively, you can put on the mysterious goggles and type in the code directly to go to a Cloud Island.

Once you have your Cloud Island set up from the Link Play menu, you’ll be booted into the island where you and your friends can get to work.

There are a few things to note when playing on your Cloud Island:

  • You will retain any Recipes and Pokemon Traces you find on Cloud Islands.
  • Anything you purchase from the PC on a Cloud Island can only be used on that island; they cannot be brought back with you to your own world. All items will be kept in the PC on your Cloud Island.
  • You can still take a picture with your camera, change it to object mode, and 3D print anything you like from a friend’s Cloud Island.
  • If you want your Cloud Island setup to match a friend’s, you can enter their island’s Magic Number to get the exact same layout. This does not copy the items on their Cloud Island, just the layout.
  • You can only have one Cloud Island active at a time, meaning you can create a new one, but it will scrap your old island.

If you’re looking for inspiration or want a few items to 3D print and bring back to your town or island, you can always visit the developer islands in Pokopia.

To get to these islands, simply put on the Mysterious Goggles and type in the address.

With that, you’re ready to plunge into multiplayer with friends and get to work on your own Cloud Island. If you want to try out Gameshare, you can do that as well with our guide, though it’s restricted to playing on Palette Town with limited resources available to the visiting player.
