Everything You Need To Know About Each Map In Marathon

Everything You Need To Know About Each Map In Marathon

After you get past the tutorial run in Marathon and start getting into your first real game, you’ll quickly notice that the map screen has a total of three maps, with one of them having two versions. All three of these maps are completely different, and they also offer different environments and vibes.

You might constantly get sniped on one of these maps due to a lot of open spaces, while another is nearly impossible to snipe on due to closed quarters. Hence, it’s important to know what each map offers since your entire build depends on it, and you have to play on all the maps if you want to finish certain contracts.

How To Unlock Every Map

While three maps might be a little less for an Extraction Shooter game, one good thing about Marathon is that most of its maps are already available when you start the game. As you get into your first lobby, the following maps will be unlocked: Perimeter (Beginner), Perimeter, and Dire Marsh.

The difference between the beginner Perimeter and the normal one is the number of players that spawn, which allows you to ease into the gameplay since the robots can already be quite a challenge to deal with.

The beginner Perimeter goes away after the first two real runs, regardless of what map you do them on.

Apart from these, there’s also an Outpost map that’s initially locked. To unlock this map, you’ll have to reach level 12 in a particular season, and your current level can be seen on the top left when you’re on the home screen. To level up quickly, it’s highly recommended to play in trio lobbies even if you have to fill it with random players since you get a lot more EXP.

Best Loot Spots For Each Map

Whenever you enter a map in Marathon, your main objective will always be to get the best possible loot. Thankfully, you can see all the main looting spots just by looking at the highlighted areas on your map, but some of them usually have more loot than others. Here are the best looting areas on each map:

Perimeter

Overflow and North Relay are the two best looting spots on this map, but you can also loot Hauler if you’re new to the game as it offers a lot more protection.

Dire Marsh

Fore Dire Marsh, you’ll find the most loot in the Complex and Maintenance area, though the former can be a little difficult to navigate at first.

Outpost

Finally, if you’re playing on the Outpost map, you’ll find the most loot under the Orientation and Airfield sections.

Tips For Each Map

Depending on the map you’re entering in Marathon, here are some tips that you should keep in mind:

Map

Tips

Perimeter

This is a great map for beginners since most of the big areas are separated and you’d easily be able to identify if a player comes close to you. However, it has a giant wall separating its northern and southern sides.

The first step to getting good at this map is remembering exactly where you can enter and exit this wall, as it’ll help you a lot in combat.

Dire Marsh

While this map is still open, most of the buildings in it are connected, which makes it much easier for other people to sneak up on you.

Moreover, the Anomaly area in the middle makes it quite hard to navigate through that area, so it’s recommended to avoid it if you can.

Outpost

Finally, Outpost is your go-to map if you want close-quarters PvP since you’ll find plenty of people crouching around in buildings, waiting for you to show up.

This map also has a hazardous condition that forces you to stay inside, which makes it quite a hectic map, and you should only go to it when you’re experienced with the game.
