Crimson Desert is easily one of this year’s most ambitious games, and while it sounds like the mash-up of every single game mechanic under the sun is going to be a little off-putting for some — including our very own Sam Woods — you can’t deny that it’s going to be one very big game with a heck of a lot to do in it.
However, while most of the talk around the game’s pre-launch has been praise, there has been a section of fans worried about the game’s performance on PC. Seemingly still scarred by the likes of Cyberpunk 2077, and due to the significant lack of console footage that isn’t curated, fans are itching to see exactly how Crimson Desert runs on the likes of PS5 and Xbox Series X. It’s gotten so bad that Crimson Desert’s own PR department has had to repeatedly deny accusations of hiding console footage.
Crimson Desert’s Console Specs Have Been Released, And They Seem Okay
Thankfully, over a week before launch, Crimson Desert’s specs for both PC and console have been revealed, hopefully putting to bed any questions about whether the game can actually run on the machines.
We’ll start with PC specs first, and to be honest, they look pretty decent for a game that’s as massive and ambitious as Crimson Desert is. All you’ll need for 1080p 60fps is an AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT or Nividia GeForce RTX 2080 as a GPU, an AMD Ryzen 5600 or Intel 15-11600K for a CPU, and 16GB of RAM, with more impressive tech capable of hitting 4K 60fps.
As for consoles, it looks like the game has three performance modes to choose from on everything other than Xbox Series S, those being Performance, Balanced, and Quality. If you want 60fps, you’ll have to stick the game in Performance Mode, which will set you at 1080p on both PS5 and Xbox Series X, but you’ll get upscaled 4K and high raytracing if you sprang for a fancy PS5 Pro.
You’ll get upscaled 4K in Balanced Mode on all systems, with true 4K locked to Quality Mode on PS5 Pro. Of course, if you go for either Balanced or Quality, your frames will take a hit, with 40ps guaranteed in Balanced, and 30fps guaranteed in Quality.
You have a few people moaning about being locked to 1080p 60fps in Performance Mode on the base PS5 and Xbox Series X, but that’s pretty much standard for big games like Crimson Desert these days. Hopefully, in the coming days, we’ll actually get some footage of the game running on these systems to ensure the specs are telling the whole truth.
