Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 And My Hero Academia Cross Over In New Fan Creation

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 And My Hero Academia Cross Over In New Fan Creation

One of the best parts about PlayStation exclusive titles finally appearing on PC is the mod support that they received as a result. Few titles were bigger beneficiaries of Sony’s push into the PC market than Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise, specifically Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, where users made everything from John Cena to Venom fully playable in-game.

However, all good things must come to an end, and the days of PlayStation titles eventually coming to PC have seemingly ended, according to recent reports. That’s a shame because the mods have been fun, and without PC support, we’ll end up losing out on things like Deku from My Hero Academia taking over for Spidey.

The mod, which is available on Nexus Mods, takes everyone’s favorite anime hero and puts him squarely in New York. Users who download the mod have their pick of which iteration of Deku they’d like to use, from his winter outfit to his movie outfit to his final outfit.

Given how much mangaka Kohei Horikoshi was inspired by comic books for My Hero Academia, Deku, naturally, doesn’t feel out of place in the world of Spider-Man. After all, his blackwhip powers are very reminiscent of Spidey’s own webs, and his do-good mindset is as Peter Parker as it gets.

It’s the kind of neat thing that seemingly won’t exist moving forward, which is a shame.

Wait, What’s Happening To PC Releases?

Just before February came to a close, it was suggested that Marvel’s Wolverine, the next Marvel title from Insomniac Games, might not come to PC altogether and that Sony’s strategy of releasing its exclusives on the platform might be ending.

Then, it was later reported that, indeed, Sony is shifting its PC strategy completely, working to keep its single-player titles on its flagship console while leaving the door open for live-service titles. That new shift put Ghost of Yotei, Saros and Marvel’s Wolverine, all titles that have or will have released on PS5 by the end of 2026, as firmly exclusive titles.

Those plans seemingly changed in recent weeks, as Yotei, in particular, was already being eyed for a PC release.

Ultimately, why these titles will cease to be released on PC is really anyone’s guess, but soft sales are seen as the chief reason. In the case of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, where 16 million copies were sold on PS5, only 700,000 were sold on PC. In other words, the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze.

To be fair, it’s not like any of these titles were released day-and-date, and when they did eventually release on PC, they were often full-price and lacking in quality. Either way, things like Deku in Spider-Man will simply be a relic of a failed pursuit in a bygone era.
