The previously-announced Steam Machine, Steam Frame and new Steam Controller will launch at some point in 2026, Valve has reaffirmed. When exactly that launch date is still remains to be seen.
In a new blog post “Steam Year In Review 2025,” the company continued to hold firm that its PC designed for playing on a TV, its foray into the VR space and an updated model of its popular controller will be released within this calendar year.
“We shared recently that there have been challenges with memory and storage shortages, but we will be shipping all three products this year,” the post noted. “More updates will be shared as we finalize our plans.”

If The Steam Machine Isn’t Priced Like A Console, It Isn’t Going To Sell Like One
The success of Valve’s Steam Machine in the console market all depends on the price.
It is worth noting, however, that the language used in the blog post was updated after it seemed like neither piece of tech would be launching in 2026.
Originally, the post, as first spotted by Insider Gaming, read as such:
“We hope to ship in 2026, but as we shared recently, memory and storage shortages have created challenges for us. We’ll share updates publicly when we finalize our plans!”
That use of the word “hope” led many to believe that there was an outsized chance that things could be delayed once more, pushing Valve to adjust its messaging. Separately, in a statement to The Verge, Valve PR representative Kaci Aitchison Boyle said that “nothing has actually changed on our end.”
It’s ultimately unclear when exactly in 2026 Valve plans to release any of these pieces, but that the company went as far as to reaffirm that its plans have not changed is a good sign.
Valve Had Planned To Release Things By Now
When the hardware was unveiled in November, the company said that it would be released in Early 2026. That ended up being more wishful thinking due to the supply shortage that has impacted tech in the months since that announcement.
Not only has the shipping schedule been impacted, but we still have zero idea just how much the Steam Machine will ultimately cost, something that would have been revealed had the market situation been different.
“When we announced these products in November, we planned on being able to share specific pricing and launch dates by now,” a February statement read. “But the memory and storage shortages you’ve likely heard about across the industry have rapidly increased since then. The limited availability and growing prices of these critical components mean we must revisit our exact shipping schedule and pricing (especially around Steam Machine and Steam Frame).”
AMD has said that things are on track, though that largely comes from a chip standpoint.
Either way, the Steam Machine is not the only piece of hardware that Valve has had difficulty fulfilling. Elsewhere, the Steam Deck has become increasingly harder and harder to get due to those same shortages.
