Resident Evil sure has been having a good few years huh? As if the remakes of its past popular titles weren’t enough, Requiem has been topping all the charts, beating even Clair Obscur Expedition 33 on the all-time Metacritic list. While Requiem is just a week old, fans are already wondering what Capcom is cooking up next.
Fans have been hoping for a Code Veronica remake for a while, and popular leakers like Dusk Golem have suggested that it’s next in the lineup. While Capcom has in no way confirmed or denied these rumours, it seems there might be a hint about the remake hidden in Resident Evil Requiem.
Don’t Drink And Investigate
As spotted by Suzi Hunter on X, a bottle of alcohol found in the bar lounge of Rhodes Hill Care Center has the name Avernico on the label. While it sounds like a generic almond liqueur, it’s actually an anagram for Veronica. While that’s not exactly a confirmation, Dusk Golem noted that “Capcom actually usually hides away small hints of what’s coming next in their RE Engine era Resident Evil games.”
That’s not the only alcohol bottle to reference another Resident Evil, though. A wine bottle named Sanguis Virginis “Chateau Dimitrescu” written on it, referencing Castle Dimitrescu and fan-favourite Lady Dimitrescu from Resident Evil Village. However, Capcom hasn’t been afraid to get meta, as fans have found copies of Mega Man 8, Street Fighter, and even the original Resident Evil.
Resident Evil Requiem – 4th Trailer
Capcom clearly loves adding Easter eggs and references in the Resident Evil games. However, taking this or any other reference as a definite sign of something will probably set you up for disappointment.
Speaking of adding fun little details to the game, fans were shocked to discover that Leon was married after spotting a ring on his finger in some cutscenes. While we don’t know who exactly he is married to, director Koshi Nakanishi has dropped some hints that suggest that it’s Ada Wong.
