While a lot of merch was announced for Pokemon’s 30th Anniversary celebrations, the monochrome 1996 style Pikachu was clearly the one everyone wanted to get their hands on. A throwback to Pikachu’s look in the original games, it features pixelated features and a black-and-white colour scheme. Unfortunately, it was only available in Japan, until now.
It’s clear that the plush is pretty popular, with some stores in Japan descending into chaos over it. So, Pokemon has decided to make it available in the US and UK Pokemon Centers as well. The announcement came via Pokemon’s official X account, but a release day has not yet been confirmed. Better keep an eye out, as it’s sure to get sold out within minutes.
Monochrome Pikachu Will Soon Be Available In The US
“We’ve heard you might be excited about a certain plush,” said the post. “Pikachu 1996 Style Plush and Keychain are coming to Pokémon Center. Stay tuned!” The handle took precious time out of posting about Pokemon Pokopia to make this announcement, so you can bet that they know how popular this plush is.
If the regular plush is too big or too expensive for you, it also comes in the form of a keychain, which will also be made available in the U.S. soon. A lot more merch was announced for the anniversary celebrations, like a diorama of the S.S. Anne and a line of keychains that resembled every mainline Pokemon game from Pokemon Red & Green to Legends: Z-A. However, it’s unclear whether these will make it to the US as well.
If these aren’t enough for you, and you really want to splash the big bucks, a recent leak revealed a massive 2,239-piece Lego Poke Ball with minifigures included. According to reports, this one will set you back $260, which lines up with other Pokemon Lego sets. This Poke Ball will apparently open up and reveal a scene inside.
