Scott Pilgrim EX not only brings back Lisa Miller, a character who has been severely underused in the series outside of the fourth book, but also finally gives her the star treatment she deserves.
If you ask any Scott Pilgrim fan what the biggest issue with the franchise as a whole is, there’s a good chance that they’ll talk about Lisa Miller, a character who is crucially important to Scott and Ramona’s relationship in Scott Pilgrim Gets It Together. Despite being so important, Lisa has never really been given the time of day outside of the fourth book.
Not only does the Scott Pilgrim movie not even include Lisa, she’s also relegated to a cameo in both the original video game and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. We all hoped that Scott Pilgrim EX might right those wrongs and finally give Lisa a proper role, and I’m very happy to say that’s exactly what it does and then some.

Bryan Lee O’Malley Clearly Heard All Of Our Complaints Over The Years
As I mentioned in my review, Scott Pilgrim EX is a love letter to everything about the series, from the original graphic novels all the way to Takes Off. There are tons of deep-cut characters to find and interact with, including our beloved Lisa Miller, who not only appears as a background character in Toronto, but can also be chatted to throughout the game.
I’m Mostly In Lesbians With Scott Pilgrim EX
Scott Pilgrim EX is leaps and bounds ahead of the original game, but a few stumbles keep it from being the ultimate beat ‘em up.
Lisa’s lines reference her career as an actor, and she even has some unique dialogue with Lucas Lee. To top it off, Lisa is a central character in one of the game’s missions, which sees you going back to high school and fighting Simon Lee, the shy, nerdy kid who Scott wrongly beat up to try and win over Kim.
Here’s your spoiler warning for the real Lisa Miller treat, which happens after the credits roll.
If that was all there was to Lisa’s appearance in Scott Pilgrim EX, I’d be very happy, but there’s one massive surprise that made me realise series creator Bryan Lee O’Malley knew how much we wanted to see her. At the end of the game, it’s confirmed that Metal Scott was the one narrating the events to the player, which is revealed with a little Mega Man reference.
That’s not all, though, as it turns out that Metal Scott isn’t a robot at all, and is actually Lisa Miller from the future in a robot costume. Lisa says that it’s a “story for another time”, leaving SPEX on a rather interesting cliffhanger. Will that cliffhanger ever get resolved? Probably not, but it’s very nice to finally see Lisa get her due.
